When are debates scheduled between Salud Carbajal and Andy Caldwell for the 24th Congressional seat? In 2016 and 2018, KEYT and KSBY hosted debates in both the Spring and Fall.

Did Biden say he wasn’t doing any debates? Or is this just nonsense?
PS “mongrel” is not meant to be a slam, but an attempt at humor: a pit mix is a mongrel, just as my loved little bichonmix is. But though I, @9:29, years ago gave up my longterm subscription to the N-P, I think one should be open to reading everything. Or just about everything, Q-Anon, excepted.
No, Biden hasn’t said that. He still plans to debate. I do wish we could have actual debates, not just a forum for pre-planned talking points. And I wish we could have instant fact checking to call out the lies and half-truths.
If you don’t vote people like Carbajal out of office, you are turning the clock to the 1950’s back because in a few more years all the government will be doing is paying former government employees their pensions, with nothing left for anything else. Obviously, you have not charted out this issue. Promises made 20 years ago have come due- baby boomer retirements are crushing us. 20 years knowing this problem was coming down the pike, and our “progressive” leaders did nothing. ERISA is federal law that covers pensions, they have jurisdiction over pensions. Bankruptcy court is federal law; they have control over public pensions. As more and more public agencies and private pension plans face bankruptcy over looming pension shortfalls, they look to the federal government for bailouts. Our federal legislative representative needs to confront this issue right now. What say you Carbajal or Caldwell – what is the federal government’s role regulating, modifying, reforming and/or bailing out the huge public sector pension mess we are now facing? Both taxpayers and pension beneficiaries need to hear what you plan to do? It was easy for government officials to ignore this because the bills were not due. They are due now and more and more tax dollars every year are carved out for one budget item only – back filling public employee pensions. Promises were made and the CA Supreme Court said they can’t be later modified. Bankruptcy is the only way out for cities and counties. Is that what we have come to? Younger workers need to hear what elected officials plan to do. Older workers need to know if they are secure in their retirement or not. And all taxpayers need to understand why they have to give up their own retirement savings, just to back fill government workers who have priority over their retirement savings rights. Can we finally talk about all of this? Trump kept us out of unncessary overseas wars, so we are not wasting public dollars on overseas misadventures any longer -therefore we have no future peacetime bonus savings to tap.
If Byzant thinks the RNC Convention has been inspiring, the situation is worse than I thought. Don’t these people care about facts at all? I understand the allure of a facist leader but 20,000 lies in 4 years should count against him.
Biden is only going to do what he’s told to do. The groundwork is already being established, as indicated by Nancy Pelosi in today’s news cycle: (MSNBC) “Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) said Thursday she doesn’t think there should be any presidential debates ahead of the November election, arguing Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden shouldn’t “legitimize” a discussion with President Trump.”…..there’s more to the article, but it’s clear that he most likely will not debate, which is unfortunate.

We all know who the candidates are and what their records have been. Caldwell is a COLAB leader that is paid by his rich white buddies to launch attacks on local government. Salud is a liberal politician that has never lost a campaign and is a good fundraiser. Does anyone think a debate is going to provide any info that is different than this? Seems like a waste of time to me, just like the 4 day commercials they call the National Conventions.

Andy Caldwell writes regularly for the SB News-Press. Its opinion pages, maybe all of its pages, are freely available now. Salud Carbajal is less often heard from but as the mongrel says, “we all know who the candidates are and what their records have been.”
Can I upvote this 100 times? The guy is a loon and is ridiculously annoying. I would vote to give the Board of Supervisors a raise just for listening to his whiney comments with a straight face.
Read Andy Caldwell’s columns, they are brilliant. He has an exceptional command of the critical issues. Caldwell had definitely earned my vote. He does his home work and has a deep understanding of how we got into such a mess in this country, now drowning in red ink, and how we get out of it. Carbajal votes the party line with Pelosi 100% of the time, and his “fundraising” comes from the Democrat public sector union establishment. Which is reason enough to make sure he is removed from the political debate – he just phones it in and pays to play. We have an entrenched deep state in this area too – as shown by the comments right here on edhat – that get posted.

The great debate: more control of our government by public sector unions or more power taken back by the taxpayers and the bills not dumped on future taxpayers. Pay to play versus pay as you go. Who pays the bills now adding up that have not been funded, in decades of tradeoffs for political support ? Millennials – this is a call to learn what has been done in your name, since you get stuck with paying for the growing public debt – higher taxes and fewer services. Elections do matter, so it is time to choose who do you want sending you past-due bills in your future or who will try to save your future for you starting now. Millennials – stuck with student loans, higher taxes, fewer services and a future of paying off someone else’s credit card -the public pension debt written in their names. Learn more about this – demand a debate and start asking the hard questions of both candidates. Why did our local “progressive” politicians do this to us. How did they get away with this for so long? Why are they trying now to stop all debate? At least demand to get informed; not closed out of the debate on these critical matters.
I was disappointed that the congressman did not debate coldwell in the spring election. I had thought I heard he was in the military. I have never know somone from the military to be afraid like that. Maybe I have his background wrong.

I realized Caldwell’s true character when, on his radio program, a guest said that Larry King, the Oxnard teenager slain by a classmate, brought his death upon himself by allegedly making sexual remarks to the killer—and Caldwell AGREED with him! Caldwell is absolutely despicable. He typifies everything that is wrong with the Republican party.
If you want to return this county, state, and nation back to what it should be, you will vote for Caldwell. That means lower taxes, support of our Constitution and Bill of Rights, minimization and efficiency in bureaucracies, respect for law and order, and everything else that once made this state the “Golden State.”
There is no BS with Calwell – he’s not a dime-a dozen politician, so what you see and hear is what you get – which is a breath of fresh air compared to just about every other career politician these days.
Yes, yes, I know, I can hear the screaming coming from the left right now about Caldwell being racist, fascist, evil, corrupt, a liar, etc, etc – the usual false stuff we have gotten so used to that those insults just roll off our backs like water on the proverbial duck. Insight, logic, policies and opinions based on facts, and an overall dedication to what has made America the greatest country in the world, are trademarks of Calwell.
All I can say is, that if you want continued taxpayer support for illegal immigration, rioting and looting of our businesses and cities, continued rise in the cost of living and taxes, lawlessness, and “fundamental change”, coupled with “identity socialism”, a lot of hyperbole, then just go ahead an vote for Carbajal again and continue to live in this ever increasing mess that was once a wonderful, just, and serene place to live and raise our families. Enjoy the weather, though, because that’s about the only good thing that is left. Oh, wait, I forgot about climate change, Darn!
Just knowing he writes for the News-Suppress tells you everything you need to know about Caldwell. Is there anyone at the paper with an actual moral code or have they all been fired? Not voting for anyone that has never been elected to public office before- we did this in 2016 and look where we are now.

The Democrats stuck in the politics of personal destruction is what is wrong with their party. Listen to the pattern of responses here – no substance, no facts, just negative personal attacks with no justification. People in this Congressional district know Andy Caldwell – take drive in the northern part of this district – nothing but Caldwell signs. Those who know him and have worked with him for decades, respect him. Salud Carbajal is in a real race this time, Everyone needs to pay attention to the choices they can make about the direction of this country takes As our Democrat elected representative in Congress, do we want more of the same chaos the House created these past few years, or finally move in a better direction so we can solve national problems; not just create them.
Andy Caldwell did not ring up a trillion dollars worth of public pension debt in the name of the Millennials and GenX’er who are now asked to spend their lives paying it off. Andy Caldwell did not fight hammer and tong to prevent public pension reform, create unfunded benefits on false investment returns. Ask one question at the debate of both candidates: Do you support defined-benefit public pensions plans or do you support conversion to defined contribution public pension plans? And why. How does your decision affect your primary campaign supporters.

Extremely well done nd puts a lie to each and every negative claim the opposition has been making ad nauseum. Take a look at any of the rebroadcasts- some pretty outstanding people – both well known and not speaking about why they support Trump’s re-election. At least see what the fuss is all about. Good place to see people across this country speak up, because you do not see the level of depth in this rather smug south county vocal populace. Don’t wake up to another surprise after election day like you did in 2016. See where the Trump support is coming from and why. Get out of the Santa Barbara, NewsPress-hating bubble. Voices in this town are becoming far more conservative. Get to know them. Listen to what points they make. Fact check them, all of them. In my opinion, Caldwell is a xenophobic fear-mongering misogynist.
I wouldn’t call myself being on the left but he’s made some pretty crazy statements that were homophobic, sexist, and racist. And I don’t want to return this “county, state, and nation back to what it should be,” I want it to be better than it is and has always been. Voting for Caldwell is taking a time machine to the 1950s where women and people of color were more of second class citizens than they are now.
