What a sad state of “being” our town has become!..
Without representation from city gov, police, park rangers..et al.
And our hands are tied to even protect ourselves..meaning, hit a transient in self-defence & you’ll go to jail, & be fined & have a record in your name, but no so for the attacking party!??.
Right before covid & the fires, we were about to declare an emergency regarding homelessness..
The emergency still exists, & has worsened, but the response has dwindled.
So be aware citizens..be alert..be ready at all times..we’re on our own.
Ms Gutierrez needs to work hard with 5 other city council members, not just Mayor Murillo. Time for all city council members to stand against this rampant destruction of our city; no matter whose district it is. Time for a new police chief. I have no confidence in our current one – we need a chief law enforcement officer who is far more proactive rather than accommodating and just phoning it in. And one who knows his/her boss is the entire city council who will finally join together for the good of this city.

Alejandra Gutierrez, this is your district. This is why the city moved to district elections. The problems are chronic and unacceptable. Do something. City worked better before district elections when city council members had to respond to the interests of the entire city to get elected. Those outside of this district are very concerned about what has happened to our city; yet we are now powerless to make a difference and ensure all city districts get competent leadership. Ms Gutierrez, this is on you watch now fix it.
Unfortunately, this “representative” is all about herself and not about those she represents. There’s new signage on Soledad and Yanonali Streets saying there will be a change in parking, prohibiting parking from midnight to 6 AM. A number of vans and cars are home to people, district 1 residents, who have nowhere else to sleep (and live.) There’s a bathroom nearby; the they keep the sidewalks clean. But now the City Transportation Department wants to make them leave and be elsewhere in the neighborhood. It’s very likely that Ms. A. Gutierrez is behind this effort.
