Santa Barbara County will remain in the red “substantial tier” as 43 new COVID-19 cases are added on Tuesday.
The county has been in the red tier for four weeks and has not met all criteria for the orange “moderate tier.” Testing positivity percent and the Health Equity metric do meet the criteria for the orange tier, but the adjusted case rate remains high and does not meet the criteria. The county must remain in the red tier for at least two additional weeks and achieve at least two consecutive weeks of meeting all orange tier criteria to officially progress forward.
“We remain hopeful about our ability to achieve forward progress into the next tier but we need every region of our county to be diligent in wearing masks, practicing physical distancing, and very importantly avoiding gatherings within anyone outside your household,” said Van Do-Reynoso, Public Health Director.
On Tuesday the Public Health Department reported 43 new COVID-19 cases with the majority found in Isla Vista, Santa Maria, and Lompoc.
The total case rate is now 9,863 with 141 currently active. There are 11 hospitalizations including 3 in the intensive care unit (ICU).
There were four deaths reported. Two from the City of Santa Maria, both over 70 years of age, one from Orcutt 50-69 years of age, and one from the North County unincorporated area 30 – 49 years of age. Three had underlying health conditions and three were associated with an outbreak at a congregate care facility. There have now been 126 total deaths.

No, my common sense approach and inability to pander disqualifies me for office in Santa Barbara.
The colleges need to be shut down yesterday. Distance learning only! I don’t understand why they allow this to happen. Send them all home.
