Here’s a shot of the International Space Station passing through the Pleiades from our point of view on Monday evening, just before it faded away into the Earth’s shadow. You can see that there are a lot more than seven sisters. There are currently seven astronauts aboard the ISS.
That meandering line of stars at bottom center is called “Ally’s Braid” because it seems to come from the bright star Alcyone above it. The Pleiades are just over 400 light years away, and the ISS was a little over 250 miles up.
Details were: Nikon D5100 DSLR, 10 second exposure at ISO 800 through a 130mm f/6.3 refractor.
