In a year of canceled performances and dark theaters, Staying Home for Christmas is an online music celebration of the holidays and a salute to the resiliency of the performing arts organizations. The concert will feature classic and surprise performances of holiday favorites and original songs by favorite artists from across Santa Barbara’s rich musical scene, hosted by Lobero Theatre Executive Director David Asbell and Opera Santa Barbara Artistic and General Director Kostis Protopapas.
Staying Home for Christmas will feature baritone Alexander Elliott, sopranos Jana McIntyre and Audrey Yoder, the Nelsen family (Nina, Jeff, and Rhys), Tom Ball, Cantor Mark Childs, Dave Hause, Teka Penteriche, and Jonathan Nathan’s Jazz Quartet. The concert was recorded with safety protocols in place and from the festive stage of the historic Lobero Theatre.
“It is a pleasure to be onstage again and producing wonderful programs like this one. I want to thank our hardworking stage staff and the talented artists who made this holiday gift to Santa Barbara a reality. Of course, much thanks to Kostis Protapapas whose dashing good looks are surpassed only by his artistic acumen,” said Asbell.
“Standing on the Lobero stage again surrounded by incredibly talented people is the best Christmas gift I could hope for this year. I’m thrilled that our company can help bring the season’s festive spirit into the homes of our friends here and around the country,” responded Protopapas.
