A Goleta man was arrested at gunpoint following a high-speed pursuit with police on Friday afternoon.
Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s deputies attempted to stop the car for a traffic violation in Carpinteria when the driver took off, running multiple stop signs going west on Via Real.
Deputies continued the pursuit into Summerland. At times speeds exceeded 70 miles per hour, past the polo fields and in and out of traffic. Around Evans Ave. the driver entered Highway 101 northbound and sped past traffic to the City of Santa Barbara. The pursuit exited at Milpas St.
The chase was called off a few blocks later due to safety reasons. and the vehicle was spotted a short time later and with the help of an arriving Sheriff’s helicopter overhead, the suspect was tracked on Highway 101 until the car arrived on Mandarin Drive in Goleta.
Deputies were there waiting for the driver, based on the address from the license plate. Authorities brought several people outside and were able to identify the suspect as a 19-year-old Goleta man.
They said he was on probation. The sheriff’s department says two of his family members were taken in as well for obstructing the arrest.
The K-9 Odin was also involved in the investigation and arrest scene.
The name of the suspect was not released.
At the time of the arrest, authorities were also checking for a shotgun believed to have been seen in the chase.

Police pursuit through Carpinteria. They are now on Via Real, just passed the Polo Fields. The suspect has a dog and shotgun in the vehicle. OFFICER SAFETY..
