Santa Barbara County firefighters swiftly knocked down a brush fire along Highway 101 northbound near Fairview Ave in Goleta on Tuesday afternoon.
At 4:33 p.m., fire crews responded to the area and discovered a fire behind the Trader Joe’s building on Calle Real. The fire was in the back parking lot that involved a dumpster, truck, and nearby brush next to the highway.
Firefighters quickly knocked down the fire from both the freeway side and parking lot area. Three engines and a Batallion Chief were used, other additional resources were cancelled.
There were no injures and the cause is under investigation.

Report of brush fire between Albertson’s and 101, with flames threatening a vehicle. 20 by 20 spot, flames about as high as the Albertson’s building. Report of a female transient running from the scene, south across the freeway. Female white, blond, black hoodie and pants. Sheriffs checking the area of the railroad tracks.

i guess there has to be significant loss of property and/or life before the authorities will do what they are paid for
It doesn’t take much space for an encampment, just a few bushes and trees. There are small camps on both sides of the freeway from Turnpike to Winchester. Seems part of the draw is convenient access to places to beg or steal, from Turnpike Center to Calle Real Marketplace.
