Chips or Chunks

Dear Edda,

My mom and I need help settling a disagreement.  We are both known for our chocolate chip cookies.  One of us says, traditional chocolate chips; the other says, chopped pieces of chocolate (chocolate chunks).  I won’t say who says what, in case you’re older and side with my mom, or if you’re younger and side with me. The winner has to make the other person cookies.  What do you say, Edda?

Signed,
Cookie

Dear Cookie,

To be perfectly honest, I have never actually met a cookie I don’t like.  But I’m going to say chunks. They add a really interesting texture to the cookies.  Although, there is a lot to be said for the ease and uniformity of chips – no chocolate-less bites. My sister Edna, however, pointed out that part of the pleasure of a chocolate chunk cookie is the taste of the cookie itself, free of the chocolate.  She’s not wrong.  But then again, they are called chocolate chip cookies.

I hope this helps.

Edda
