Nine COVID-19 Deaths Over Weekend

The Santa Barbara County Public Health Department reported nine COVID-19 deaths and 689 new cases from Saturday through Monday.

On Saturday, there were two deaths. Both individuals were over 70 years of age and both had underlying medical conditions. Neither death was associated with an outbreak at a congregate facility. One person resided in Santa Barbara and the other in the Goleta Valley/Gaviota.

On Monday there were seven deaths. Six individuals were over 70 years of age and one was between 30-49 years old. Five had underlying medical conditions. One death was associated with an outbreak at a congregate facility.

Two people resided in Santa Barbara, two in Santa Maria, one in Goleta, one in south county unincorporated, and one in Orcutt.

There have now been 298 deaths in the county from COVID-19 of various ages and backgrounds.

There are currently 1,288 active cases. Of those, 170 are hospitalized including 47 in the intensive care unit (ICU). Santa Barbara County’s ICU availability is 17.10%.
