Fatal Vehicle Collision Near Gaviota

A woman has died following a single-vehicle rollover on Highway 101 in Gaviota early Wednesday morning.

At 6:48 a.m., Santa Barbara County firefighters and a ground ambulance responded to Highway 101 southbound at the bottom of Nojoqui Grade near the Highway 1 interchange.

Crews discovered a vehicle sustained heavy damage after rolling off the roadway and into the right shoulder. There was a single occupant, a 21-year-old woman from Guadalupe, who was pronounced deceased on arrival. Heavy extrication was required to retrieve the victim.

Cleanup and traffic restrictions are taking place in the area. The cause is under investigation.
