The shooting at the Borderline Bar & Grill in November 2018 was a tragic event that has had lasting effects felt beyond the boundaries of Thousand Oaks and Ventura County. As with any major incident, it is important that we look not only at what occurred, but how we can better prepare and respond to similar situations in the future.
The sheriff’s office has prepared an after-action report detailing the sequence of events, lessons learned and areas that can be improved upon. As always, our thoughts are with the victims and the families of those who were there that night.

You can 3D-print guns these days, and the plans are freely available. So it’s actually exponentially easier to get a gun using this technology. Additionally, lots of parts for guns are not illegal to buy or sell. Many people make an living as gun assemblers, providing these ghost guns to criminals. You have about as good of a chance and stopping that as you would stopping drug trafficking and illegal immigration.
This is just like the homeless situation. Until you make mental health a priority, tents on the side of freeways and shooting incidents will continue to be a problem. Banning guns isn’t the solution, and neither is building tiny homes for drug addicts and the mentally ill. Address the core issue or just don’t bother, because lunatics can use automobiles (David Attias) and pressure cookers (Tsarnaev brothers) to inflict mass casualties.
Pretty lame argument there. Mental illness is not linked to gun violence, and the scale of casualties inflicted in mass shootings far outpaces non-gun incidents.

5:42 – where in those articles does it say mental illness has no link to gun violence? If your argument was true, why do we prohibit people with mental illness from purchasing/owning guns? The Vox article states “only 52 out of the 235 killers in the database, or about 22 percent, were mentally ill.” So yeah, while mental illness isn’t the main cause of gun violence, you can’t say it’s not linked.
It’s about more than guns. Europe has done a pretty good job of rounding up most of the guns. Now they have more knife attacks. It’s not the weapon. It’s the person. Put the focus on the right syllable.
