Jasmine Keolian, 93, of Southern California, died March 2, 2021 surrounded by her family. Jasmine was born June 10, 1927, in Los Angeles, California, the third child of Armenian genocide survivors, Martin and Mary Gulazian.
On November 23, 1950, she married Mitchel Keolian. Jasmine and Mitchel recently celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary together at their assisted living apartment at Maravilla, Santa Barbara, where they moved last year from their long-time home in Playa del Rey, CA. Jasmine taught piano lessons for eighty years, sixty in the living room of their house in Playa del Rey. She brought her passion for classical music to thousands of children and adults in her piano studio. For many years she was the treasurer of the Music Teachers Association of California West Los Angeles Chapter, and many of her students participated in the MTAC Certificate of Merit.
Jasmine was ahead of her time, she enjoyed working and managing her business, unusual for a woman in 1960’s America. She was interested in her development whether by being a member of Toastmistresses or discovering the hottest stock market tip. Jasmine had a big heart; she was generous to those less fortunate and sympathetic to a sad story. Jasmine and Mitchel loved to travel together, extensively exploring abroad and domestically, piling all four kids into the station wagon to tour the United States. Jasmine was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother.
She is survived by husband Mitchel Keolian of Santa Barbara, CA; son and daughter-in-law Robert Keolian and Tanya Dickenson of State College, PA; daughter and son-in-law Jeannette and Jim Colliton of Santa Barbara, CA, granddaughters Helen and Bridget Colliton; daughter Bonnie Keolian Lochner of Santa Barbara, CA, granddaughters Carli and Sofia Lochner; son Gregory Keolian of Los Angeles, CA; and nieces Adrienne Mahtesian Chavez and Jennifer Barnagian of Los Angeles, CA. She was preceded in death by her son-in-law John Lochner and siblings Archie Gulazian, Adrienne Mahtesian, and Zaven Gulazian.
A memorial graveside service will be held at Inglewood Park Cemetery April 9, 2021 at 11:00 am in Inglewood, CA. Donations may be sent to the Armenian EyeCare Project, San Dimas, CA.
