Commercial Burglary Suspect Flees From Officers

On April 7, 2021, at 4:50 am, the Combined Communications Center received a call from a business owner reporting a prowler on the property of Cal Coast Adventures in the 700 block of Carpinteria Street. The caller was able to observe the suspect on a live feed video security system. Officers responded and began to set a perimeter around the business.

Shortly after, the suspect jumped the fence of the property, and began running from an officer who ordered him to stop.  Officers communicated using their radios to close the perimeter and contacted the suspect in the 700 block of Cacique Street. Due to their coordinated efforts, officers were able to take custody of the suspect, who surrendered, without incident.

Officers discovered the suspect, identified as Fernando Moya Hernandez (DOB 2-6-96) a resident of Goleta, discarded a backpack while fleeing. The backpack contained methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia. Hernandez was booked at Santa Barbara County jail for 664/459 PC attempted burglary, 148 (a) PC obstructing/resisting arrest, 11377 (a) HS possession of methamphetamine, and 11364 (a) HS possession of drug paraphernalia.
