El Capitan State Beach will soon close for at least a year for construction work starting September 1, 2021.
The construction will provide a big improvement to the beach area’s facilities. It will include widening the entrance road to the beach, improve the bridge to allow better fish passage, make the kiosk more efficient when admitting visitors to the park, and make trails ADA compliant.
Camping facility reservations had just reopened on April 1 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The area is popular with locals and travelers who enjoy the beach, camping, fishing, and surfing.
