The Flying A studio had arrived here in July 1912, and by the end of that year, they purchased some land on the first block of Mission Street, west of State Street. The buildings were designed by James Corbley Pool, who would later design the Recreation Center on Carrillo.
“Beauty and utility were never better combined than in this plan. There will be a general mission effect. Along Mission Street will be an eight-foot arched brick or concrete wall and at the east corner of the office building which will be surmounted by a mission tower.” – Motography, February 1, 1913
Other movie studios in the Los Angeles area were also designed in this style that is now called Mission Revival. The Santa Barbara train station is another example of this style.
