A large branch snapped from a tall tree on State Street near Haley in downtown Santa Barbara about 10 p.m. Tuesday night.
It hit between two outside patio dining and bar areas, including Whiskey Richards.
No one was hurt.
Santa Barbara Public works closed off traffic in one direction of the 400 block s where one lane was covered by the broken branch.
A city Forestry Division crew removed tree branch [Wednesday] morning.
This is part of the natural, though perhaps non-native, urban forest. It may be a bit dangerous, but that is just part of the excitement of being in the city of Santa Barbara. You never know when one of the people’s trees might fall on you. And if anyone was even thinking about doing something to address that dangerous tree near their home or business, beware! The city is cracking down hard and will not tolerate any maintenance being performed on the people’s trees. Pruning that decrepit tree in front of your house is a felony! You must allow the tree to decay and fall naturally, whatever the consequences may be for life and property.
The vegan restaurants want to split it amongst themselves and add it to their menus.
The urban forest that you’re not allowed to maintain, besides paying for water, even if it presents a danger to the public.
@ Chillin Funny, but it’s not about the douch bag house flipper. It’s about how the city plants trees on your parkway and refuses to maintain them or let you. It’s super frustrating if you have ever had to deal with it.
Forestry division did they hire some more family to run that department head good pension what about the tree people that work for the city with the fanciest trucks better than the private sector
California infrastructure (and this is also infrastructure) is in a dismal underdeveloped country state .
Just look at all the “dangling” electric wires responsible, among other, for most of the devastating forest fires.
And NOTHING is done about it !
This is an absolute disgrace !
Yeah but when the homeless get a little torchy with the urban forest, all the sudden everyone starts making excuses for them rather than nicking them for dual felony of arson and destroying public property.
The Jacaranda trees are beautiful. Be aware, however, that the city is planning to remove the magnificent Jacarandas on Misssion at the 101 freeway. This to accommodate a bike lane to allow bicyclists not to dismount for a 50 yard or less walk.
