Pedestrian Identified in Fatal Highway 101 Collision

Authorities have released the name of the pedestrian that was struck and killed on Highway 101 southbound near the La Cumbre offramp on Friday evening.
 
The pedestrian has been identified as 39-year-old Mark Richard McDonald.

A pedestrian was struck and killed on Highway 101 southbound near the La Cumbre offramp on Friday evening.

California Highway Patrol (CHP) received the report around 6:12 p.m. and discovered a pedestrian had run from the center divider of the freeway across southbound lanes. The pedestrian ran right in front of a 2010 Toyota Camry driven by a 45-year-old man from Oxnard.

The pedestrian was struck by the Toyota in the number two lane and was struck a second time in the number three lane by a 2005 Lexus driven by a 54-year-old Santa Barbara man, according to the CHP.

Both vehicles exited the freeway and the drivers reported the incident. They were uninjured in the collision.

The pedestrian was pronounced dead on arrival, their identity has yet to be released.

  1. Crazy. I just saw this guy like 5 minutes before walking up on La Cumbre street right before the bridge with a blanket in his hands. He was walking in the middle of the street and he crossed as soon as the light turned green and I almost hit him. He looked like he was tweaking judging by his movements and his eye looked really large. Then a few minutes later I heard sirens go up State.
