Vaccination Proof or Negative COVID Test Needed for Bowl Shows

By edhat staff

The Santa Barbara Bowl announced that proof of vaccination or a negative COVID-19 test is required for entry into their venue.

On Tuesday, the area’s largest site for concerts and comedy shows followed the direction of other local venues and updated their entry policy as COVID-19 infections continue.

“For the safety and comfort of all guests, proof of completed vaccination or negative COVID-19 test will be required for entry for everyone including children under 12,” the Santa Barbara Bowl stated in an email to its attendees.

Vaccination proof will include a government-issued identification card and one of the following?

  • CDC Vaccination Card.
  • Original vaccination card, printed copy of vaccination card or photo of vaccination card on your phone.
  • CA Digital Vaccine Record
  • Proof of Negative COVID-19 test within 72 hours from time of entry to venue.

Acceptable tests are Diagnostic Tests, Molecular Tests, RT-PCR Tests, NAAT Tests, Antigen Tests & Antibody (Serology) Tests.  Over the counter tests will not be accepted.

The announcement also states that if concert-goers opt for the negative COVID-19 test, some artists require a negative test within 48 hours of attending instead of 72 hours.

The mask policy has also been updated. Masks are required for anyone entering indoor areas of the Bowl, including the restrooms and hallways. Masks are strongly encouraged while outdoors for everyone, although if you are not vaccinated mask-wearing is required.

Concert-goers are urged to arrive at least 90 minutes early to get through the safety and security checks.

The changes can be viewed here.

  1. The whining anti-maskers and the domestic terrorist anti-vaxxers will be excluded. Deal with it. Can’t wait until there is a fully approved vaccine for kids and we can require it in schools. Home school if you don’t like it.

  2. BDM – That makes absolutely no sense. They are only allowing vaccinated people in the bowl. How does that equate to the vaccine not working? Did you read the article or just crop dust us with a canned comment for any article with the word “vaccine” in it?

  3. OGSB – so you’re bummed about waiting in line, ok makes sense. The consequences I keep talking about are for the anti-vaxxers. You make the choice to refuse the vax, you can’t complain about the consequences. Here, the consequence is you don’t get to go to the Bowl to see live music/shows.

  4. @SAC, I get it, but not much of a consequence for the anti-vaxxers. They just have to get tested. (well, and wait in line.) I just think all these increasing requirements are overreaching and getting a bit controlling. Let them get it and move on. I get there’s a chance of some threatened super scary variant, but I’m over it. Let’s stop trying to protect the idiots.

  5. Such slavish devotion to government authority figures one sees in these discussions here. Wonder where that came from, because it was certainly not the ethic coming out of the 1960’s. When did the Age of Aquarius become the Age of Authoritarianism? When did this ideological turning point take place. From the earlier 1960’s question authority to this 2020 bow down to authority and all questions get you banned and canceled, if you are lucky. Banished and vilified if you are not.

  6. VOR, i just searched this extensively and came up empty. There is nothing from the EU or other nations regarding what you had just posted. In fact, i took it a step further and hit up a very close family friend on Messenger. I asked your question to her. She’s a school teacher in Berlin and has 4 of her own kids in school there. She laughed and said that is ridiculous. They are masked and get vaxed when they come of age…..just like the rest of the globe.

  7. it doesn’t work? that is some really STUPID and dangerous things to share with a public that seems to think they know more than a doctor or virologist.
Seriously folks, maybe this is the best thing. It’s called the Darwin Award and i see so many hopeful recipients in line for it in Santa Barbara

  8. VOICE – so your reason for not requiring masks in elementary schools is that it’s not feasible and too difficult to monitor? Why not leave that to the teachers? Why discourage mask wearing just because some kids might not do it perfectly. This is the problem. If something is not perfect, you and others just throw your hands up and say “nope, won’t work.” Some is better than none in this case. If kids aren’t wearing them perfectly 100% of the time, so what? Even if it’s half that, it’s worth it to protect them and to slow the spread so they don’t bring it home to their elderly family members or dad with cancer.
Why can’t we just take what we can get? There is no risk of kids suffering anything by wearing a mask, there is a risk of them suffering or their families suffering if we take masks out of the elementary schools.

  9. ZERO: yes, covid and delta CAN (not WILL) kill you. HUGE DIFFERENCE. Your perception of the covid risk of death is incredibly skewed, not based on “science” or real “data” and actually hurts others when you take that skewed view and try to force things like vaccines on little kids if they want to go to school. Here is some perspective if you’re aged….
0-19: 99.997% chance of surviving IF you catch covid, 1 in 37,036 odds of dying, similar to odds of dying from a sharp object.
20-29: 99.986% survival rate, 1 in 7,142 odds of dying, similar to odds of dying from sunstroke.
30-39: 99.92 survival rate, 1 in 3,225 odds of dying (IF YOU CATCH IT), similar to odds of dying from choking on food.
40-49: 99.92% survival rate, 1 in 1,219 odds of dying , similar odds to drowning.
50-59: 99.73% survival rate, 1 in 369 odds of dying, similar odds to dying in a pedestrian accident (wear those helmets!).
60-69: 99.41% survival rate, 1 in 168 odds of dying, similar to odds of dying in a car crash.
70+: 97.60% survival rate, 1 in 41 odds of dying, similar to dying of chronic respiratory disease. Yeah covid sucks for this group, so does the flu, all other respiratory diseases, and many different infections, getting old sucks, but this does NOT mean we pointlessly mask kids in school (there are NO studies that show masking elementary aged kids provides a benefit, prove me wrong!) or force a vaccine on unwilling people.

  10. VOICE – are you seriously giving me the “silent treatment?” I’ve asked multiple questions about masks in schools, but you have no response? I get it, I’ll stop joking around with you, but seriously… why shouldn’t we allow schools to mandate masks for kids under 12?

  11. Byz, you said “What has not changed is Reagan’s other warning that the worst words in the English language are “I am from the government, and I am here to help”.” Talk about straw dog arguments with false dichotomies! Extremist language pretending to be a “free flow of ideas” is merely recycled garbage to sensible people. That Reagan comment is the epitome of no government ever. Do you even read what you write?

  12. for the umpteenth time Sac… all particle studies that show the effectiveness of masks assume proper mask usage, which adults don’t even do. All the studies on mask mandates show only a nominal benefit (correct, that means it is not zero). Children (and most adults) simply can’t wear a mask appropriately all day, never touching it, replacing it with a new one when touched, when it gets wet, etc. Child mask mandates ignore this very real fact, they also ignore all negative aspects of having kids wear masks all day in school which negatively impacts their educational development, social development, and potentially other negative health consequences to breathing through and having a dirty mask on your face/mouth/nose all day. There are no studies that show masking children in schools helps prevent the spread of covid because they don’t exist and school mask mandates on young kids doesn’t work. Kinda like how seatbelt laws wouldn’t work if people didn’t wear their seat belt properly. Most importantly, it completely ignores how extremely low of a risk covid poses to kids, and that is a good thing! If this is truly our new risk tolerance for kids then they should be forced to get flu shots, wear masks during every flu season, and always, no matter how well they swim, wear a lifejacket when near the water. Common sense has gone right out the window.

  13. https://www.who.int/news-room/q-a-detail/q-a-children-and-masks-related-to-covid-19
Children aged 5 years and under should not be required to wear masks. This is based on the safety and overall interest of the child and the capacity to appropriately use a mask with minimal assistance.
WHO and UNICEF advise that the decision to use masks for children aged 6-11 should be based on the following factors:
Whether there is widespread transmission in the area where the child resides
The ability of the child to safely and appropriately use a mask
Access to masks, as well as laundering and replacement of masks in certain settings (such as schools and childcare services)
Adequate adult supervision and instructions to the child on how to put on, take off and safely wear masks
Potential impact of wearing a mask on learning and psychosocial development, in consultation with teachers, parents/caregivers and/or medical providers
Specific settings and interactions the child has with other people who are at high risk of developing serious illness, such as the elderly and those with other underlying health conditions

  14. Has anyone even read how you’re supposed to wear a mask? You know, if you want to come close to the results in the studies? https://www.who.int/news-room/q-a-detail/coronavirus-disease-covid-19-masks
How to put on and wear a fabric mask:
Before touching the mask, clean your hands with an alcohol-based hand rub or soap and water.
Inspect the mask for tears or holes, do not use a mask that is damaged.
Adjust the mask to cover your mouth, nose, and chin, leaving no gaps on the sides.
Place the straps behind your head or ears. Do not cross the straps because this can cause gaps on the side of your face.
Avoid touching the mask while wearing it. If you touch it, clean your hands.
Change your mask if it gets dirty or wet.
How to take off and store a fabric mask:
Clean your hands before taking off the mask.
Take off the mask by removing it from the ear loops, without touching the front of the mask.
If your fabric mask is not dirty or wet and you plan to reuse it, put it in a clean plastic, resealable bag. If you need to use it again, hold the mask at the elastic loops when removing it from the bag. Clean your mask once a day.
Clean your hands after removing the mask.
How to clean a fabric mask:
Wash fabric masks in soap or detergent and preferably hot water (at least 60 degrees Centigrade/140 degrees Fahrenheit) at least once a day.
If it is not possible to wash the mask in hot water, then wash it in soap/detergent and room temperature water, followed by boiling the mask for 1 minute.
    General tips:
Make sure to clean your hands before touching your mask.
Make sure you have your own mask and do not share it with others.
Resist the temptation to pull down your mask to your chin or take if off when speaking to other people.
Do not store your mask around your arm or wrist or pull it down to rest around your chin or neck. Instead, store it in a clean plastic bag.

  15. VOICE – so, because it is not as effective as you’d like and it is difficult to ensure that all kids are wearing them properly all the time, we should not encourage mask use in elementary schools?
Also, never said kids under 5 should wear them at all.

  16. No Sac! It isn’t “not as effective” it simply isn’t effective. It isn’t just difficult to ensure the kids’ wear them properly, it is impossible to ensure they wear them properly (adult’s can’t even do it right!). Even if there was a small benefit, it would ignore all negative consequences as you continue to do here. I’m done with your not-so-subtle argument changes midstream, done with you intentionally missing the point (you’re brighter than your responses let on) I’m done going circles with you.

  17. VOICE – calm down. I’m not changing anything. I just want to know why you think kids shouldn’t wear them. You’ve explained that. But, now you’re bringing up all these “negative consequences” of wearing masks. I know multiple pediatricians on a close level and never once have these “negative consequences” come up during our discussions of what is safest for the kids.
Further, you keep saying masks are “not effective” at all. That’s again, simply not true.
I get that your frustrated, but sometimes you’re just wrong. It’s OK. You don’t have to run away from an argument when you’re wrong. I’ve admitted plenty times if I’m wrong. I’ll do it again if you show me some proof that the “negative consequences” outweigh the small benefit of having kids under 12 (but over 5) wear masks while they’re inside the classrooms at school.

  18. 4:09 PM seems to manage wearing his snorkel for a significant amount of time without any non-cognitive ill effects.
Really, anyone who thinks that masks aren’t effective, for both adults and children, isn’t thinking at all.

  19. Zero- Seriously? First of all, I have dutifully followed ALL masking, distancing, and hygiene rules from day #1. The very first opportunity to get vaccinated we did, then when our kids could, they did. I’m also self-employed and have suffered the all-day masking even when my clients didn’t care if I did. I did my part and continue to. What anti-masking or conspiracy crap have I EVER said? Yeah, zero. I’m definitely over it, frustrated with it, and think it’s become a government overreach. (with all the new masking and rules to protect the un vaxed) This all started out to protect your elderly neighbours and those who are compromised, right? Well if they have not protected themselves yet, why are we? I think people with attitudes like you are just making this and the divide worse. You have no idea, Dude.

  20. BYZ – I don’t think I’ve ever once listened to Fauci or any authority figure really speak about covid or tell me to wear a mask, other than a few snippets of a sound bite. It’s common sense to me (and most of us thankfully) to protect ourselves from a highly infectious and deadly disease that spread across the planet in a matter of months. Part of that common sense protection plan is wearing a mask when we’re close to others we don’t know. We see docs wear them in surgery to avoid spreading germs. We see people all over Asia wear them ever since the bird flu. It just makes sense and since it’s not a major inconvenience (well, unless you’re a fussy ever-complainer), we wear them where it makes sense….around other people when we’re close together. Vaccine? Yup, another common sense defense plan. We have been getting vaxxes since we were kids and if they have one against this deadly disease, we’ll get one too.
You see, you and the other “rebels” think we’re all waiting with bated breath for Fauci to “tell us what to do,” but the reality is pretty much all of us already know what to do and using common sense, we take steps to protect ourselves and our families. It’s not some complicated world domination plan as you people always make it out to be. Common sense. But, by all means keep fighting it! Just don’t be one of those anti-max, anti-vax people all over the news, dying alone with a tube in your lungs, tweeting out “I made a mistake, I was wrong….” Or do it, we don’t really care anymore. You go, you splendid rebels, go!

  21. How about all these Open-air Anti-vaxers? “Two weeks after the annual motorcycle rally in Sturgis, South Dakota, reported Covid infections in the state have risen nearly sixfold.
South Dakota counted 3,819 new cases in the past two weeks, including seven deaths, up from 644 cases in the 14 days preceding it. That makes it the state with the largest percent increase in Covid cases in the past two weeks…” If you don’t care about yourself, fine, but please care about your neighbors and get vaccinated.

  22. GT, you want to force young children to get a new vaccine, with no long-term studies on how in impacts developing bodies, for a virus that is not a threat to them (less than the flu if we’re following the data, which doesn’t have a vaccine requirement), and someone else is the domestic terrorist? You sir, do not have the best interests of our children at heart and are again throwing other people, this time young children, in front of the bus out of concern for your own safety.

  23. VOICE – “, you want to force young children to get a new vaccine, with no long-term studies on how in impacts developing bodies, for a virus that is not a threat to them” ——- how do you get there from “Can’t wait until there is a fully approved vaccine for kids and we can require it in schools.”
Once again, intellectual dishonesty (outright lying) at its finest with you. GT says he/she wants the vaccine once fully approved and you spin it into forcing a shot with no studies into little kids’ arms.
As for “a virus that is not a threat to them,” well that’s just not true. You act as if we can only have black or white, all or nothing. You are as binary as an Apple 2E. Kids have died from this. Not as many as adults, but to say the virus, especially Delta, is “not a threat,” is a disgraceful LIE.
    http://www.change.org/p/VOR-should-remove-“reason”-from-his-name?source_location=topic_page

  24. False, unreasonable, and utterly hypocritical claims from misnomered source. We know how mRNA vaccines affect bodies … they cause them to produce specific antibodies, And those children who are dead or in the hospital would disagree that there’s no threat to them.

  25. Sac, I have no idea where you’re coming from. I’ve never said I can’t wait until the kids get a vaccine (I’m perfectly fine waiting until any new vaccines my young kids take are thoroughly tested for safety and evaluated for efficacy and need). The virus is not any more of a threat to them than the flu, less actually, which more kids died from the past year. You’re right, kids have died from covid, kids have died from the flu (more than covid), kids have died from vaccines, kids have died chocking on hot dogs, kids have died in the bathtub, kids have died swallowing magnets, but again you’re completely missing the point, manipulating my comments around in your head, and literally putting words in my mouth that were never said. This will be the extent in my interaction with you today.

  26. Macelk, FALSE ! We do not know how the vaccine impacts young and developing bodies. We also don’t know it’s long-term impacts and efficacy on adults as clearly evident by the push for subsequent boosters so quickly after the first two, which also opens to the door to the very real possibility of ADE in the future.

  27. VOICE – you promise? Anyway, I didn’t say YOU said ” I can’t wait until the kids get a vaccine.” GT did, that’s who you responded to at 8:46am. That was the point of my comment. GT says he wants kids vaxxed when a fully approved shot comes out and you jump on him/her and twist his/her words. Don’t run off yet. You don’t get to put words in peoples’ mouths and ignore facts and then “run away” and not engage. I’ve been harsh lately, yeah, but it’s because I’m tired of the constant “smarter than thou” attitude you throw on everyone in here and then ignore when myself or others call you out and prove you wrong. You need to back up your game, not quit it.

  28. Reagan’s “Trust, but verify” has changed somewhere in the past time line to became — trust what I tell you or you will be banned. What has not changed is Reagan’s other warning that the worst words in the English language are “I am from the government, and I am here to help”.

  29. If your neighbors are vaccinated, why are they worried? is not the better claim for a super-spread the Obama birthday party, in a closed tent? Where are the same tracking numbers you supply for the Sturgis event? However, we have long moved past fear of “cases” and our public arguments need to reflect the growing data confirming the 99.98% “case” recovery record and the growing confusion about the role of co-morbidities and the continuing financial incentives to label hospital “cases” as covid. “Case” numbers follow the normal flu season ups and downs while death rates have stayed remarkably low and flat. Where is the renewed crisis?

  30. JAMES B – how is it in conflict? You don’t have to wear a mask in the mosh pit, you don’t HAVE to get a shot against your will. You just have to show you are vaxxed or tested negative. Yeah, a little inconvenient, but global pandemic and almost 3/4 of a million Americans dead in the last year and such…….

  31. Hey SACJON
Think of this next time your at the bowl and you can some pot smoke. Someone who could be infected just breathed out that air, vaxed or not.
I was more than likely vaccinated before you so don’t call me an anti!!

  32. SAIL380 – Well, the odor spreads much farther than the actual breath particles. Also, the smoke from the joint/pipe, etc., does not have covid on it. But yeah, if someone blew pot or any smoke in my face, I’d be pretty pissed. Also, I’m not planning to go to the Bowl or any concerts any time soon. Not worth it to me yet.

  33. WOW – it’s seriously so tragic to see how hostile and angry some of these comments are. Why are we judging others for their personal medical decisions? I have a hunch that this is internet commenting at its worst.. and that nobody would act like this in real life. I’m curious if some of the keyboard warriors have ever met in real life. I bet you’d treat each other very different in person.. despite differences. Heck you might even embrace the fact that you voted different, interpreted data different or have different approaches keeping yourself and your family safe. I will gladly host an event if we can get commitment from some of the most vocal commenters here. I’ll provide food and we can have a beach day or something nice & outside. If you want to argue about data interpretation.. we can do that too but why don’t we try and drop the aggression and the shunning of people regardless of how we feel about the choices they make.

  34. Sac, GT and Voice I would love to get the 3 of you together in particular. Let’s all talk it out! I’m sure we can find some common ground and look at ways we can help make the community we love even better together 🙂

  35. Byz, are there any government programs that you personally benefit from? Water, sewage, electricity, roads, airports, public schools, environmental protection, food safety, coastal access, police, fire, coast guard, army, navy, the list is endless. I find it ludicrous that people who appear to be so anti-government cannot recognize that although inefficient sometimes, government does actually serve a useful purpose in our lives.

  36. YOUDOWN – That would be a fun meeting lol! Look, I’m not asking for much. If you make unfounded statements, I will ask for evidence. If you refuse to get vaxxed or wear a mask, I will be upset at your selfishness. I have multiple friends who refuse, and I live happily among them, despite my disappointment. We know our boundaries and that’s fine. What gets my goat is the constant superiority complex of some, despite making fallacious and/or baseless arguments.

  37. OGSB- Id like you and others to put things aside and use some logic and rationale here. This virus has killed hundreds of thousands of americans (and others across the globe). It’s been with us for 2 years. There has been more than enough public information, scientific information, medical information submitted at all angles to the public. They gave out free vax. They told you why wearing a mask is important and why getting the shot was important. They explained it several ways. Over and over. Now, moving on from those facts, if you or anyone else out there chose to ignore it and refuse to accept it, also refusing to mask up when asked and refusing to get a vax when the rest of us did, that’s all on YOU and the others that have some weird conspiracy theory about it. I know two people that died from this. I watched them suffer. I know people with weak respiratory systems. So for you to say it’s controlling, in a manner that is not ok, is a bit much. Yes its controlling. Why? Because folks like yourself and many more are too ignorant to listen to a medical doctor, a virologist, scientists as well as other legitimate health officials. Unless you yourself or the others possess a valid medical license and have a background in virology, you really can’t say a word against it. Protest all you like. It won’t change a thing at this point. Our retail store puts up with some seriously rude folks over a simple mask requirement. They are then told they can wear a mask or shop elsewhere (with a mask!). Have a good day dude

  38. Again with the extremes Pit…. But seriously, sometimes inefficient? There is simply no area where the government IS efficient and that doesn’t mean I’m anti-government, or want to abolish the government, while at the same time I can be anti-‘big’ government and want politicians and bureaucrats to have less control over our daily lives.

  39. VOICE – “Extremes?” Saying the government is “inefficient sometimes” is not an “extreme.” Saying there “is simply no area where the government IS efficient” is the very definition of extreme. I just don’t get the thinking here.

  40. Pitmix, those straw dog arguments of yours don’t hunt no more. Enough with your false dichotomy rebuttals, please. You are merely arguing with your own agenda, which disrupts the free flow of ideas here by requiring a response to correct your intentional distortion of what someone else said. No one ever put “no government” on the table ever, except you. Conservative is not interchangeable with libertarian. Conservatives support prudent, efficient, limited, and accountable government just like they expect those same qualities in personal lives. Remembering that will stop a lot of static in future discussion.

  41. Zero: My children are not eligible for the vaccination as they are too young, and is certainly not something I’m going to rush them out to get anytime soon even if approved this year due to the lack of long-term studies on young/developing bodies like theirs which studies should include its safety, efficacy, and need. Contrary to flashy clickbait headlines, the prognoses for children and covid has not changed much through the variants. Are you aware the EU and the WHO do not recommend masking kids in schools? They understand there is a cost-benefit to every measure, and it simply doesn’t past the test for kids in school, which is different than adults in a store. If and when adequate long-term studies are conducted on young children then we can discuss it being a requirement to “coexist in this society”. It’s amazing how many of the “coexist”, pro-choice, and live and let live group quickly did a 180 and now it’s only pro-choice and coexist if it matches your choice.

  42. VOICE – I’m not finding anything from the EU about masks in schools except this:
” What are the most important measures to prevent the spread of infection in schools?
As in other confined spaces, specific measures to implement in school settings are physical distancing, improved ventilation, regular hand-washing, proper respiratory etiquette, and the use of masks when feasible (children > 12 years)” — https://www.ecdc.europa.eu/en/covid-19/questions-answers/questions-answers-school-transmission
    And this:
“6. Should children and teachers wear masks in schools?
Within the community, the use of face masks is recommended, particularly in indoor settings when it is not possible to maintain physical distancing.” — same citation
Can you provide the WHO statements against wearing masks in school? I couldn’t find anything other than this from Dec 2020:
“For indoor public settings such as busy shopping centres, religious buildings, restaurants, schools and public transport, you should wear a mask if you cannot maintain physical distance from others.” — https://www.who.int/news-room/q-a-detail/coronavirus-disease-covid-19-masks
If there is something more recent, please share.

  43. Agree zerohawk, lots of selfish people out there refusing to wear a mask around others when it is CLEAR that it DOES work! Vaccines reduce the severity, it is fact and so many want to use their political agendas to be in denial, and in turn that is filling our hospitals. NOT in SB pls. Thank you SB Bowl!

  44. DUKE – dismissing the debate as “hyper partisan” is taking the easy way out. This is more about trust and common sense. Who do you trust? Your doctor or someone you “researched” on YouTube? Where’s the common sense? If there’s a highly contagious and deadly airborne virus, common sense dictates you wear a mask and get a vaccine if there is one. Sadly, too many have made it partisan, which makes the “trust” part even harder, on both sides. I choose to listen to my family doc and follow my gut instinct. I choose to suffer the minor inconvenience of a mask because I TRUST the medical experts and more so, my own doctor who recommends it for all ages (over 2 yrs). I’ll keep trusting that.
