The Santa Barbara Sheriff’s Office would like to thank all of the allied agencies that assisted in the planning and logistics involved in this year’s Isla Vista Halloween Operation. This year’s operational period covered Friday, October 29 to Sunday, October 31, 2021.
This year’s activity has continued the downward trend in attendance and criminal activity that we have seen in previous years. The breakdown of arrests and citations are below. Both of the arrests were for outstanding warrants. Only four of the citations were alcohol related and the remainder were traffic related.
October 29 | October 30 | October 31 | |
Arrests | 2 | 0 | 0 |
Citations | 9 | 8 | 0 |
Incident Reports | 2 | 0 | 0 |
Wait wait wait WAIT!!!! Hard kombucha and a cucumber seltzer arw the hipster taps… hoppy poppy or luponic are just good times!!! (But yeah I have talked to them about bringing in a solid lager for when a slice and a pint needs to be kept under 5%).
And with all the handwringing and pearl clutching about those “party kids” who do nothing but drink….. When are we going to finally give these hardworking and serious students credit? The constant jabs at UCSB students as spoiled little brats partying their lives away is old and no longer true, as we can see from the past years of uneventful “Deltopias” and Halloweens.
Way to go UCSB students! At least some of us recognize your hard work and effort!
Sac – the partying in IV continues on as string as ever… they have though ended the Halloween tradition. In terms of weekends where school is in session, Halloween is now one of the quietest weekends.
DUKE – Sure, just as any college, there will be weekend parties, but NOTHING like the past Halloweens, spring breaks, or just random massive block parties. Point is, those students out there have worked hard to get there and the constant belittling has gotten old.
Sac – the block parties aren’t random in Isla vista… They are every single weekend! They stopped the Halloween tradition, stopped deltopia from becoming a Thing (Spring Break has never been a thing in IV)… but the party rages on my friend…
UCSB remains, quite heavily, a party school beyond just “any college”.
DUKE – of course they party (what college doesn’t?), but the stigma of UCSB students being a bunch of spoiled party animals is proven time and again to be outdated and usually fueled by bitterness. Read Henry’s post, it’s time to stop blaming the hardworking Gauchos for everything.
I don’t blame the gauchos at all!! Just got a bit of a chuckle at the idea of the party being over in IV. They definitively ended Halloween out there as a thing many years ago… but it’s still (and rightfully so) considered a quite fun “party school”. And I for one, don’t say that in a bad or mean way at all! Go gauchos!
Henry – don’t temp me! I’ve been missing afternoon beers in IV for 25 years!
I agree…it’s the out of towners and the CC kids that cause most of the issues in IV. Just wanted to correct Sac that the party in IV continues on…just no longer on Halloween. As for block parties, I perhaps misspoke, I mean that much of the Del Playa block is a party all weekend…so no not a “block party” in the sense of permits and closing the street…but the BLOCK IS PARTYING hard!
