People’s Self-Help Housing Playgrounds Featured in Leading Landscape Magazine

Leading industry publication Landscape Architect recently featured a number of People’s Self-Help Housing (PSHH) playgrounds as exemplars of residential recreational spaces.  The theme of the September edition was ‘Playgrounds’ and the colorful, two-page spread was written by long-time partner and landscape architect, Robert Andrew Fowler.

“Rob has been a creative collaborator with People’s Self Help Housing for many years,” said Ken Trigueiro, CEO & President of People’s Self-Help Housing. “He has brought so many of our properties to life with beautiful, dynamic spaces for our younger residents and their families to play and recreate. We are thrilled that Rob was able to share his vision and feature our award-winning properties in this publication.”

The article dives into the inspiration and evolution of Fowler’s playground design in PSHH neighborhoods, which number almost 20 residential spaces. Fowler describes how he creates inspiring and inclusive playgrounds where children of all abilities can explore and learn. The PSHH properties featured in the article include Jardin de las Rosas in Santa Barbara, Guadalupe Court in Guadalupe, and Villa la Esperanza in Goleta.

“[The playgrounds] led to more people wanting to be a part of the next PSHH project,” wrote Fowler in the article. “The success of an attractive hardscape-landscape and community amenities helped create a pride of ownership for the people that lived there and those that lived nearby.”
