Update by the City of Goleta
November 24, 2021
The City of Goleta completed the repairs to the Fairview Avenue and Calle Real traffic signal today. We want to thank Goleta Public Works and its contractors who worked together to get the signal running again.
Utility work unrelated to the traffic signal will continue in the area next week.
The City understands this is a well-traveled intersection and busy area. We thank you for your patience and wish you a Happy Thanksgiving.
Update on Fairview and Calle Real Traffic Signal – Plan Alternate Route
November 17, 2021
The City of Goleta is requesting the public continue to avoid the Fairview Avenue and Calle Real intersection due to a traffic signal that is not functioning and in need of repair. The intersection is currently operating with a 4-way stop until repairs are completed. It is unknown how long it will take to resolve the issue but please plan on choosing alternate routes if possible until further notice. We will update you as soon as the traffic signal is up and running again.
Goleta Public Works has been diligently working to resolve the issue since it learned this morning that the electrical wiring to the traffic signal was inadvertently damaged during nearby construction. A specialty company has been called in to assist with the repairs. In addition, Caltrans is monitoring any issues on US 101 northbound approaching the Fairview Avenue offramp.

That is one of the slowest and most painful lights in town! I totally could see a stop sign situation being better lol.
I wonder if they’ll propose a roundabout for this intersection.
This light is the WORST. Do they promise it’ll be fixed for good after this?
They’ve been working at this intersection for at least the past two weeks, including last night. Did someone forget to plug something in???
Are any adults in charge directing traffic?
Do you really think the City of Goleta has the money to condemn 3 gas stations and a large business. When I did the Hollister and Fairview intersection we barely had the contingencies to cover the problems with Jiffy Lube and Big Brand. Maybe you could re-align the gas stations so people could get their gas along while stopping around through the roundabout. That would be about as likely.
This is one intersection/interchange where a roundabout would probably improve the flow of cars once people got used to it. Unfortunately, urban roundabouts often work out poorly for bicycles and always work out poorly for pedestrians and there are plenty of cyclists and pedestrians using Fairview avenue who have no viable alternatives.
