Cachuma Lake Status?

Update by Patti Gutshall

We have a long way to go before the damn will spill.  A light dusting of snow remained on the mountain tops.  Brisk and windy, but felt good in the sun.

With all the wonderful rain it would be nice to see some reports on how the level of Cachuma Lake is being affected. Is it anywhere close to spilling?

  1. According to a 2017 article in “The Independent,” Cachuma last spilled in March 2011.
Also, this, “The Bradbury Dam that created Lake Cachuma was built in 1953. County records show that the lake spilled 14 times in the 28 years from 1959 to 1987, but only eight times in the 28 years from 1988 to 2016.”
    Fingers crossed!
Aside: Water storage capacity in California has been grossly mismanaged since the mid 60s when then Governor Edmund G. “Pat” Brown (Moonbeam’s father) proposed an expansion of the infrastructure. Since then, no new dams while population has more than doubled. SHAME on legislators and bureaucrats!

  2. Here’s some good news:
“LAKE TAHOE, Nev. —With four days left to go in the month, Lake Tahoe has already broken the record for December snowfall set 50 years ago.”
Lakes be fillin’! Rivers be flowin’!!! Flowers ge growin’!!!
