Celebrate with us in any or all of the following ways:
- February 1 at 9:00 a.m.: Santa Barbara County Board of Supervisors will Adopt a Resolution honoring the City of Goleta upon its 20th Anniversary of Incorporation. View the agenda here and watch the meeting here.

The problem with Goleta cityhood is that half the tax revenue for businesses in existence at the time of the city’s founding (think Costco, Home Depot) will go to the county of FOREVER. Usually there is a tax sunset clause for 20-30 years for new cities but the people who organized Goleta cityhood wanted it so badly that they were willing to accept a really bad tax deal with SB County. Fortunately for Goletians Target came later.
The problem with Goleta is that it is based on a con. The idea that the locals could Bogard the revenue from the developments in the community that the county created and thus deny the rest of the county residents the money that the taxes there produced. This is the fundamental crime of its incorporation. Selfishness followed by bragadacio as to how wonderful the locals thieves were.
