It appears Sheriff Bill Brown has a formidable competitor this year in Lt. Juan Camarena.
Who are you all voting for?

Who was responsible for the reprehensible behavior of deputies refusing vaccination? Was it the leadership of Bill Brown or intransigence on the part of the union? The answer will determine my vote.
What medical interventions they choose to partake in are between them and their doctor. Their body their choice!
That didn’t answer the question.
It did TJ, medical decisions are between the individual and their doctor.
Not when they involve putting the community in danger, but you antivaxxers can’t seem to get that through your alternate-reality noggins.
I think with his name recognition, Brown is basically a shoe-in for the job. Irregardless of how qualified or unqualified a candidate is, most voters will automatically check the box next to the name they recognize. SB city and county have a lot of “educated” voters, but many more are not politically educated, hence the election of the same ol’ same ol’ all the time. Oh well.
Camarena has my vote. Sheriff’s deputies refused to take a sample of blood left at a $7,000 burglary at my business where the burglar injured himself, leaving blood at the site, saying, “This is not television; we don’t do that.”
From Nick’s Independent article:
Brown acknowledged. “But if you find a job you love, you’ll never work a day in your life. And I really love my job…. I don’t want to do anything else.”
…pretty much says it all “…you’ll never WORK day in your life.” So Bill is laying it all out there what he “Perceives” his JOB is all about.
That’s sufficient for me to vote for someone willing to actually do the WORK required (Juan)!
+1 Juan Camarena
It’s a nonpartisan office, leave the dumpster fire out of it. “Freedom driven” lmao, yeah that really seems to be what the conservatives want out of law enforcement. Must be why they like ramshackle border fences and prisons so much.
I’ll vote for Camarena. I lost any respect for Brown when he attended the rule-breaking Kardashian wedding. What the heck was he thinking?
It’s your vote but why waste it by guilt by association instead of judging the man himself? Perhaps after doing some research you’d feel the same way but this is not a party election- it’s about who can best protect us.
This is a silly debate/topic of discussion while we catch and release dangerous criminals statewide.
Let’s go to the polls for some new policies, starting at the top of the chain.
This is a grossly naive statement. Learn a little history, law and policy before you make such silly claims. Unless you want to come across as a naive, ignorant blow hard. In that case, post on!
Fitz yes I’m a big fan and you’re right- I’ve tried to recommend that they at least link to his news articles on the site instead of the generic stuff. They don’t have bill brown’s budget. There is an interview of Juan coming on KEYT Friday I believe.
That’s why I also posted the independent piece.our local press does a pretty good job considering these are small June elections.
Yes he has blue lives folks (I support police too). But think about it- a Hispanic sheriff can attract more Spanish speaking sheriffs in a county with 47% Hispanics. That’s a good thing. We have an issue with gangs and sex trafficking in Lompoc and Santa Maria Hispanic communities and I think the victims might be willing to come forward. Sex slavery is slavery. It’s a pet issue of mine that we don’t acknowledge there’s modern day slavery in our communities and it’s being ignored. Bill brown has done nothing on this. I think Juan will.
I am Literally at a conference right now where one of the topics is how can we talk to each other without tribalism and demonization. I hope I’ve done a decent job not demonizing you or bill brown.
