I have been seeing many illegally placed signs all over town, almost always for the same two candidates, and I’m wondering where we should report it to? The county elections website gives me a non-functioning email address when I click “contact us”.
Who can we ask to remove these signs? These people are not playing by the rules and it’s undemocratic, at best, morally bereft at worst.
Also, at one prominent corner on Cathedral Oaks, I saw those same signs in front of a preschool. That seemed strange to me, so I called the school and asked if they were aware of the signs. They said “no, we keep taking them down but must’ve not seen them this morning. Thanks for letting us know. We don’t want our business associated with them (the candidates)”
The manager of the Goleta business pictured had no knowledge of the signs on their lawn. I’ve yet to hear back from the owner if those signs were placed with their consent.
BASIC – but how can you put all the blame on voters when one candidate refuses to debate?
None of what you posted is true. There is no mass voter fraud, the courts have proven this. In fact the very few instances of voter fraud have been GOP members who attempted to vote twice.
The only election fraud proven ub this past presidential race was committed by registered Republicans.
A corner near me always gets a steady stream of improperly placed signs…. for nearly every candidate from every side in nearly every race.
I don’t like it, but I also do not think it’s a big deal. I just throw them away, mostly because I find them ugly. We have serious problems, real problems. This isn’t one of them.
The exception is the obnoxious Boat Rat Matt. Still not on the forefront of our City’s “serious problems” list, but seeeriously annoying. So ugly, such a joke, and up in places where it takes serious effort to git rid of them, like on utility poles. He should be fined the cost of removal.
So is the rule that you can’t have political signs on public (city) property? Does that go for summer camp or youth sport ads as well? They don’t bother me, as I fully support any efforts toward youth sports, but just curious if this applies to all signs or just political ones.
As I’ve noted before, if CW says it you can bank on it not being true.
I can’t even imagine how annoyed the graffiti hotline operator must be when they answer the phone and it’s someone calling about a political sign on a street corner.
If you say it enough times you’ll believe it to be true GT, but a quick google search shows its false.
Maybe we should ban signs and oversized mailers for political campaigns . It’s bad for the environment. And if no one gets to do it is fair. Think of the money saved to go to things that matter. I highly doubt anyone is influenced one way or the other by a sign with a name on it.
VOR all talk again and no proof. Quick Google Search:

To say there were zero incidents of Democrat’s fraud, and that the only instances of fraud were committed by Republicans, is false.
Yeah – they may lose in Duke when they get 1-2 calls from Edhatters – not sure how they’ll handle it.
It is incredibly petty to complain about “improperly placed” political signs when they are a basic way to conduct a political campaign in our democracy. Restricting political voices to “approved” forums and places stifles our 1st Amendment rights and smothers grass roots democracy. Signs are a powerful way for those without huge resources to gain attention and get their message out. If these signs remain up after the election season one can complain but just enjoy them for the time being as proof that we have many voices as a people.
Coastwatch parroting the modern day Reichstag.
You are right… it’s gotta only be a couple of calls so maybe the person taking the call is finding humor in The insufferably annoying and petty caller.
Mini – even an answering machine would be annoyed with the pettiness of it!!!
I feel like Lozano herself is in on this one……
“Morally bereft.” Heavens, what’s this world coming to?
Right?!
So I would assume this would all also apply to the signs on the fencing on the overpasses every weekend? Right now it’s Ukraine flags that stay up for the weekend. Usually, US flags or other edgy political signs are taken down quickly. I don’t really care as long as they are put up and removed, but isn’t this political too and on public property?
Sac- Umm it wasn’t a “debate”. Debating actually wasn’t allowed.
The real problem is that both candidates suck. From the district to county, it’s a shit show and everyone is bailing because of it. That’s the only reason someone like Lozano is even in a conversation. It’s sooo f’ing bad that it’s come to this. That is what all you people should be bitching about. I’m so glad we’re almost done and so bummed for the rest of you oblivious people.
OG – it was a public opportunity to make her policy known along with the other candidate. That’s the relevant part as it relates to my comment at 1:01pm in reply to Basic saying how important “debates, speeches/statements where candidates actually take an opinion on something” are.
Same illegal signs on the roadsides/intersections in the No.County. They are on public property…easements, etc. and usually put up overnight. Indication that they don’t have many supporters who are brave enough to post signs in yards. Goleta is handling them like graffiti. Call the hotline and they will be removed. Caltrans should remove them in their easements. Sometimes they refuse but just call again. County roads say they don’t want to get into the ‘politics’ of removing illegally posted political signs. They need to start getting into the business. They never pick up their roadside litter either.
Nit picking on the opposing party. Par for the course.
Is it nit picking when one side seems to consistently ignore democratic norms? The Qanon wackadoodle Boat Rat Matt littered his signs all over SB despite having zero chance of becoming mayor. Now some washed up PE teacher who won’t debate and has zero experience is doing the same thing.
Not about party. This is about following the established election rules. Without rules, the candidates with the most money and willingness to cheat would win every time.
I’ve seen Lozano hanging out at that corner recently – I bet she left them there.
Actually it’s the corner of Glen Annie and Calle Real that the Lozano sign waving team has been hanging out at – She must have felt entitled to leave her sign on public property.
Voting is NOT what it used to be… Polls/ Voting for ONE day. “Covid” abnormalties that have now been embraced as stanard procedures have produced voting fraud- Mail-in’s in “special drop boxes” now, days and days of “voting”… The U.S. used to send delegations to countries around the world to ensure “legal voting practices”…. What a JOKE. We are now as corrupt as any Third World country.
The sad fact is that many voters don’t take the time and effort to think critically for themselves, research each candidate, and make an informed decision. This has led to the new norm of us getting bombarded with political ads on tv, internet, front yards. I think there are so many uninformed voters who vote simply based on this brainwashing technique of pure name recognition that candidates and parties see this is their major strategy. Raise as much money as you can and crank out as much signage and advertising as possible. Forget debates, speeches/statements where candidates actually take an opinion on something. Sorry, but I’m blaming the uninformed/uneducated voters on this one.
Typical. Those signs you like are allowed. Those signs you don’t like are not.
OG – the Ukraine flags aren’t (well shouldn’t be) “edgy” or anything. I think the support for Ukraine is one of the few non-partisan things we have these days. Or, am I wrong about that? I hope not!
Wait, what? Susan Salcido is a highly qualified education professional with years of experience in education administration. Lozano is a Q-Anon-nonsense-spouting PE teacher who has been transferred to several schools over the years, and who has burned a number of bridges in her community. You do you, but one candidate is extremely qualified to be superintendent and one should be nowhere near that or any other public office.
Sacjon what you are ‘wrong’ about is the idea that somehow society can differentiate cleanly between the good and bad signs. Not possible, so once we decide to rely on that slippery concept we are all in trouble. Better to tolerate all views and trust to the marketplace of ideas to reject that bad ones.
Typical. Those signs you like are allowed. Those signs you don’t like are not.
Sac- “Usually, US flags or other edgy political signs are taken down quickly. ” Clearly not referring to the Ukraine flag… I think flags are political as posed by this study. (yeah I know it’s from 2007)
https://www.pnas.org/doi/10.1073/pnas.0704679104
I’m just saying there’s always someone that’s going to be upset, so like everything else, we cater to them. So nothing should be allowed on overpasses. It’s a distraction for drivers anyway.
I never said Susan wasn’t qualified or that Lozano was. You can be qualified and still not do your job well. The fact that Lozano would get any votes speaks to that. It’s similar to the whole Trump fiasco.
OGSB – yeah, good point. Until people can stop getting their panties in a bunch about every little thing, no signs/flags for anyone!
Need to rid the hood of the BLM signs too.
And No Nuke ‘art’.
And keep the politics on bumpers.
When a City not follow own laws, end up with eye sores and homeless camps. or sidewalk sewers.
CREEKMOE – “the hood?” Where is that?
Local321 – It’s staggering how many people we currently have in SB on the “education administration” payroll.
