HTO Field Advisor Harry Rabin continues his regular monitoring of the ocean off Summerland, to provide information to the State Lands Commission (SLC) about any new oil leaks that may occur. He also works with SLC contract engineers, Interact, in differentiating between seeps and wellheads, and in March 2022 the team located a leaking wellhead called “Moore.” The team also corrected CALGEM information about the locations of other leaking wells, including Treadwell 1 &5, slated for capping at the end of 2022.
The Moore survey was conducted over three days in collaboration SLC, Acteon/Claxton Drilling and Decommissioning (InterAct), Global Diving, and Patriot Environmental Services. The support vessel Danny C provided DSV services and Rabin’s On the Wave Productions team provided aerial survey services. On the Wave’s report to SLC outlined how, after three days of surveying and digging, the diver located the Moore 1 wellhead as well as the potential extension of the Moore Wharf. At least 2 natural seeps were identified and 1 seep was excavated. The Moore leak will go onto the SLC calendar for future work.
This graphic, by Harry Rabin/On The Wave Productions, shows original CALGEM locations of wellheads and corrected (actual) locations of wellheads located by Harry and his SLC co-workers.
