  1. OK,…….. now that compass class is over.
I wonder when we will start indicating the VEGETATION FIRE labels with a prefix or suffix to show the vegetables didn’t spontaneously ignite! Trying to think of a catchy phrase…..

  2. Yeah let’s not nitpick on directions, big picture is we’re allowing homeless to start fires all along the 101. What’s the solution?
If we want to keep the stays quo politically, meaning we’re ok supporting this lifestyle, my suggestion is we completely clearcut the freeway corridor. No more trees, greenery. No more fuel. Yes, it will look like LA. But if “we” want to allow the homeless to live as they choose, there’s a price to pay.
Otherwise, get ready for one of these to become a big fire that takes out whole neighborhoods, people, pets, property.

  3. Our local governments are incurring serious expenses $$$ for each incident response. I recommend that our local agencies position themselves to force Caltrans to pay cost if they continue to fail to manage their property. That’s what would happen to any other land-owner if they allowed such illegal, neglectful occupancy with clearly demonstrated public nuissance. hy should Caltrans’ absenteeism be different?
Start not with a suit, but clear letters that there is clear, predictable, and proven public danger associated with the land that Caltrans owns and manages. Tell them to take immediate action or pay the millions and millions in costs that is being taken away from our kids, our parks, our health care…. It’s hard for me to put into words how stupid and cowardly the political response to our current situation is.

  4. @10:51 — I don’t see any argument or rudeness in the comments. I also don’t see how talking about the cause of a thing (in this case, a very dangerous fire started by a vagrant) is “from from the topic.” Difficult and non-PC, yes… but very much the topic, danger, and story at hand.
