As a swim instructor at SBCC, I was curious to see how the SBCC Re-Enrollment Day event was progressing that was held on Friday, July 29th. The event was organized to encourage students to return to campus and register for fall classes.
I heard there would be free tacos, and I’m not one to pass up free food, so I swung by for a visit around the lunch hour.
It was good to see lots of students of varying ages taking advantage of the resources provided. There was live, in-person help with applying and registering for classes, which is important since the college enrollment process is not user-friendly. Staff from a variety of areas and programs – counseling, EOPS, Transitions, to name just a few – were on hand to answer questions, provide information and assist students with the registration process. And there was ping-pong to boot!
The food, provided by El Zarape on San Andres, did not disappoint. Everyone, including many employees of the college, seemed to be enjoying the delicious spread of food and the pleasant camaraderie at the event.
After so much “zooming”, it was really nice to be with community members in-person, outdoors, on our local community college campus. Judging by what I experienced, I’d say the event was a resounding success!
