By the City of Santa Barbara
In response to the current statewide energy crisis, the City Water Resources Division reduced energy demands at its three treatment plants: William B. Cater Water Treatment Plant, Charles E. Meyer Desalination Plant, and El Estero Water Resource Center on Monday, September 5 and Tuesday, September 6.
By taking these major operational steps during peak demand (between 4 p.m. and 9 p.m.) the three plants reduced citywide consumption by nearly 10%. The plants were still operating but at a condensed capacity and will continue to decrease energy as needed.
