The Hollister Avenue Old Town Interim Striping Project (Project) is headed to the final design phase and will be in construction in early summer 2023. At a Special City Council meeting held last night, October 27, 2022, the Goleta City Council voted in favor of moving the project forward after hearing a presentation from City Staff and testimony from community members. This meeting was the culmination of several City Council meeting and a recent well-attended workshop.
Goleta Public Works Director Charlie Ebeling said, “Public Works is excited to move to the next phase of delivering this project. The project will meet several community goals such as increased parking and bike lanes. The project will also include several safety improvements.”
The Project includes:
- One vehicle and bike lane in each direction
- A non-traversable painted median
- Back-in angled 90-minute parking along the north side of the street
- Parallel 90-minute parking along the south side of the street
- Pavement restoration
- Traffic signal equipment and timing upgrades

As soon as the paint dries, I will avoid that area at all cost and rely on Catheral Oaks, instead. I suspect the move will make it even harder for the local businesses on Hollister to survive.
I’ll miss the Habit the most. And my filet mignon from Santa Cruz Market. RIP.

My point was that if Hollister was not a thoroughfare that’s always used when theres an accident on the freeway, then knock yourselves
out with the reduced lanes!
But reality has shown time and time again that even with two lanes each way it becomes a mess!
Big mistake. Sorry Calle real and Cathedral oaks your going to see a huge increase in traffic. Also business should try to relocate now while they can.
Wish they’d do that on Milpas.
