A suspect has been arrested in the burglary of a LGBTQ+ bar and lounge in downtown Santa Barbara.
Santa Barbara Police confirmed the suspect, a homeless man, committed the burglary and also stole an electric bike from Gold’s Gym earlier that morning. He stole $300 from the register at Crush Bar, a box of candles, and a sweatshirt.
Police confirmed the arrest in the 600 block of W. Valerio Street reported by neighbors was the same suspect involved in those burglaries. His identity and the formal charges have not been released.

A bar and lounge in downtown Santa Barbara was burglarized Wednesday morning and the staff is asking for the public’s help to identify the suspect.
Crush Bar & Tap, the area’s only full-time LGBTQ+ establishment, posted a call out on Instagram yesterday.
Located at 1129 State Street in the courtyard behind Anthropologie and next to CorePower Yoga, management stated an individual caught on their security cameras was seen stealing cash out of the register and equipment around 8:00 a.m. on December 14.
“We are very saddened to share that our little queer safe haven was robbed this morning… While the monetary loss hurts, the feeling of violation in our home has really shaken us,” the post read.
The business also said they know the suspect spent time at Old town Coffee, a neighboring business in the open courtyward, before heading to Crush.
Another post on the social networking platform NextDoor stated the male suspect was wearing gloves and entered through a back door that is usually locked, but must have been unlocked by a customer on the previous night.
Several people noted the same suspect was arrested later that day in the 600 block of W. Valerio Street after a foot pursuit with Santa Barbara Police officers, although this has yet to be confirmed.
“We want to thank you all for your continued loved and support, and despite this unfortunate turn of events we want to assure everyone that Crush will remain a safe, warm, and joyful space where all identities are welcomed and celebrated. Anything helps or simply just come grab a drink & support our home,” the bar states.
In this day and age, it is negligent to leave a cash drawer in the cash register overnight.
Hopefully the cash taken was less than $300 and hopefully the business operator instils a closing procedure to check all doors at closing and lock the cash drawer anywhere else other than the one spot a thief would look.

As long as this “nice woke” philosophy keeps expanding as it does now: it’s only going to get worse.
And according to YOUR logic: if you get aggressed in the street: it’s going to be your fault because you just shouldn’t have been there at that time and it wouldn’t have happened to you!
FOND – Calm down, good thing none of what you wrote is true.
1) Saying the victim could have taken precautions is not calling them guilty and absolving the thief of a crime.
2) Your analogy is anything but logical. Saying someone could have taken precautions to avoid loss due to a crime is no where near saying a person who is attacked shouldn’t have been there. That’s simplistic and not analogous at all.
Here’s a thought – let’s say you’re stumbling drunk in a black out down State St. with a wad of cash hanging out of your pocket or dangling your BMW car keys at people and someone rips you off. Still 100% they are guilty of the theft, but couldn’t you have done something different to make yourself less or a target for a loss? Of course. And that is not the same as saying someone minding their own business getting attacked is at fault for the attack, just as neither is the drunk. But, if you can do something to avoid theft, you should do it. That’s ALL that was expressed by the comments you attacked.

And the analogy with not being in the street at that time is EXACTLY what you say when you accuse the victim of having left something somewhere which then got stolen!

Your systematic opinion that, no matter how ugly the crime is : it is always the fault of the VICTIM! They are the guilty ones according to you: they wear the wrong outfit, they left stuff home or at the office or in their car, they went jogging at the wrong place, they wear the wrong earring so it’s their fault! And let’s NEVER accuse the REAL criminal of anything and let’s keep making excuses, and often glorifying any deviant behavior!
I, and a whole lot of other people, want to be able to live SAFELY in a society, knowing that we don’t have to constantly hide what we have because there are CRIMINAL, who YOU defend, who will come and rob me, my office, my home or break in my car and that you and other consider this a a normal state of affair and accuse me of not protecting myself from this!

“Woke”: I woke up this morning around 7:45 am and got myself a cup of coffee, and clicked on edhat to find out what is going on here in SB, reading articles like this. So now I am wide woke up at 8:30 am.
You guys are hilarious. How about blame the victim if they voted for the politicians who choose to allow this behavior.
Not the owner’s fault that they were robbed, but it likely IS the responsibility of an employee (unless it was the owner’s responsibility to lock up and secure the premises). There are too many stars that aligned just right here, including the door being unlocked, money left in the register, and the thief KNOWING about all of it. There is surely more to the story and luckily it was just a small amount of money, the guy was caught and everyone can learn from it.
