The Central Coast Medical Association is pleased to announce Kevin Casey, MD, as president of the 2020 Board of Directors. Dr. Casey has been a member of the Central Coast Medical Association since 2016. He has also been active with CCMA’s state affiliate, the California Medical Association, where he has worked on policies and legislation that affects physicians and patients.
Dr. Casey received his Bachelor of Science from Loyola University New Orleans where he graduated magna cum laude. He went on to Loyola University Chicago for his Doctor of Medicine. He completed his general surgery residency at Ochsner Clinic Foundation in New Orleans and his vascular surgery fellowship at Stanford University Medical Center.
In 1999, Dr. Casey was awarded a United States Navy’s Health Professions Scholarship. During his time with the Navy, Dr. Casey served as the ship surgeon on the USS Ronald Reagan, general surgery department head in Afghanistan where he played a key role in the facility’s 89% survival rate, as a surgeon with Advance Echelon (ADVON) on the USNS Mercy on a humanitarian mission in Southeast Asia and Micronesia, and in multiple roles at the Naval Medical Center in San Diego. During his military service, Dr. Casey received numerous honors and awards including four Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medals.
Dr. Casey moved to Santa Barbara in 2016, and he is a vascular surgeon with Santa Barbara Vascular Specialists. In addition, Dr. Casey is a teaching professor with the general surgery residency program at Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital, and he was awarded the General Surgery Teacher of the Year Award in 2018.
Dr. Casey lives in Santa Barbara with his husband, John, and their dog, Sarge. He enjoys cooking, playing tennis, and spending time with family.
