CenCal Health, the publicly-sponsored health plan for Medi-Cal in Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo counties, was recently recognized by the regional chapter of the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA). The health plan’s communications department received four awards for its work in the following categories:

— Advertorial for An Open Letter to the Community (COVID response from the CEO).
— Publications, Annual Reports for the 2019 CenCal Health Community Report cencal2019.org.
— Publications, Brochures for the Fast Start Guide (for new member benefits and care).
— Publications, Newsletters for the Spring 2020 Member Health Bilingual Newsletter.

The 56th Annual PRism Awards Ceremony was held virtually on November 12 with 50 awards presented by host Kim Tobin of NBC4 to winning PR and communications professionals from LA-area corporations, academic institutions, government agencies and nonprofit organizations.

Los Angeles region’s premier communications industry awards program acknowledges excellence in public relations strategic campaigns, tactical programs, and professional merit. The 2020 award winners were selected by an independent panel of judges from the Chicago chapter of PRSA.

CenCal Health’s Communications and Community Relations department is led by Nicolette Worley Marselian, a 20-year veteran of government health programs in California. “When the pandemic forced us to work apart, the team found ways to stay connected and produce exceptional work,” said Worley Marselian.

“With Covid-19, as well as many other health care issues, effective communication to the public in general, and our membership in particular, is a top requirement for success,” said CenCal Health CEO Bob Freeman. “However, it can be difficult to get an important message through the overall clutter on television, radio and the internet. So, to be recognized by PRSA – in multiple instances – for doing just that, is a true testament to the quality and professionalism of our communications team.”
