RV Towing Vehicle Causes 37 Acre Grass Fire in Cuyama

Firefighters responded to a large grass fire near New Cuyama on Monday.
At 2:28 p.m., crews from Santa Barbara County, CalFire, and the US Forest Service responded approximately a 1/2 mile west of the small town and discovered a growing brush fire that had spread to over thirty acres.
The area had been previously burned by a downed power line, reports County Fire Captain Scott Safechuck.
Two local water tenders and a grader assisted in the containment of the fire. It took less than a half-hour to stop the forward progress of the fire at 37 acres. All aircraft enroute was cancelled.
The fire was caused by a vehicle being towed by an RV, said Capt. Safechuck.
Resources remained on the scene for mop up and Highway 166 remained open.
