On May 1st, Courthouse Docents were honored in a Mural Room ceremony recognizing 50 years of service. Local, state and federal government representatives were on hand to commend the Docent Council for its many contributions to the Courthouse.
Certificates were presented by the offices of Congressman Salud Carbajal, Senator Monique Limon, and Assemblymember Gregg Hart. County Board of Supervisors representatives presented a Resolution honoring Docents and Mayor Randy Rowse gave a commendation from the City.
Honored guests included Peggy Hayes, a centenarian and senior member of the Docent Council, Billie Maunz, one of the charter docents, and family of Marilyn McMahon whose inspiration led to the first 1974 tours.
In addition to leading over 6,000 visitors on tours each year, docents provide educational opportunities for youth groups, operate the lobby information booth, and fund & manage conservation projects including restoration of the many Spanish-style lanterns throughout the building.
