The Santa Barbara City Fire Department responded to a call for a possible emergency landing at the Santa Barbara Airport Thursday morning.
Around 7:00 a.m., the crew at Station 8 was on standby as a private plane, described as a Dassault Falcon 900 with three people on board, was approaching the runway and called for an emergency response.
Firefighters were on standby as the plane ultimately landed safely without injuries, according to the Santa Barbara Fire Department.
So who pays for these emergency service responses? Does the pilot get billed for rescues? 😉
Interesting query… I’d assume (we all know where that would go) that since it’s magically on the city of SB’s property that the city be on the hook for this, BUT I guess one would ARGUE that the INDIVIDUAL should be, as it’s an associated risk? 🤡 🚴

The Airport has dedicated fire/rescue department on the airport. The firefighters are there 24/7 everyday. They probably welcome the action. Btw the jet had an engine failure but has 3 engines. Falcon 900B.
It’s not a dedicated entity, it’s Engine and Foam 8 and Station 8 out of 8 from SB City Fire. For more serious call outs, County adds mutual or automatic aid. A friend, now a retired SB City BC worked both there at the airport and a tiller driver for the more fun run at Sta. 1.
Little different risk we’re talking about with a plane coming down than a trail hiker with a sprain or laceration. Hashtag obvious.
Don’t the planes pay landing fees, which should cover maintenance and emergency expenses.
