An electrical short circuit at Santa Ynez Cottage Hospital caused a great deal of smoke on Friday.
Santa Barbara County Firefighters responded to the scene after staff heard a loud pop and saw smoke coming from an electrical room.
Construction crews were upgrading a large switch to supply generator power in the event of power loss which caused the issue, according to the County Fire Department.
Due to large amount of smoke centrally in hospital, a second engine was requested to aid in ventilation of the smoke to prevent intrusion into periphery.
No fire was reported but crews noted molten metal and compromised insulation at the site.
As of Friday afternoon County Fire reports the call as all clear and hospital operations normal.
I want to know the contractor’s name so we can be sure to never hire them!
Need to know a lot more before a contractor can be blamed. Faulty equipment?
