- Up to 20 sandbags per trip are available to residents for free.
- Remember to bring your own gloves and shovels.
- Be prepared to fill the bags you need. When filling sandbags, remember to only fill them halfway, so they are not too heavy to lift and will stack properly.
Residents are reminded that the City Sandbag Distribution Policy is designed to assist in the protection of private property only during storm emergency conditions.

Please contact the Public Works Streets Division for clogged/blocked storm drains or streets related emergencies at (805) 564-5454.
The hours say you have to pick up before 4pm, which is extremely inconvenient if you work normal business hours like we do. However, my husband was able to get the sandbags at the firestation on Stanwood last night. They are available outside, so don’t let the window of hours deter you if you need them.
Please remember to clean up and recycle your plastic bags after all this. Don let them rot away into a millions of plastic flakes. Better yet demand that public agencies start using burlap bags.
For those who need sandbags tonight, you can go to the transfer station off Calle Real at the top of County Rd (near all the County buildings). Sand and bags are available 24 hours/day and there’s a generator powering lights all night long. There was hardly anybody there last night.
These types of bags are not recyclable, unfortunately Lew. And you’re right, when they sit outside for any length of time they disintegrate into microplastic.
