Fee Waived Adoption Party to Celebrate at County Animal Shelters
In a year filled with challenges and triumphs, Santa Barbara County Animal Services (SBCAS) is proud to announce the release of our annual report, which can be accessed at www.sbcanimalservices.org. Through strategic partnerships, innovative programs, and unwavering community support, SBCAS achieved remarkable success in 2023. SBCAS will be celebrating their
achievements with a fee-waived adoption party this weekend, January 26th – 28th at all County animal shelter locations in Santa Barbara, Lompoc, and Santa Maria.
2023 Annual Report Highlights:
- Nearly 6,000 pets sought refuge in SBCAS’s care, with 2,757 adoptions, 1,286 reunited with families, and 2,157 placed into foster care.
- Collaborative initiatives like Project PetSafe, Pet Resource Centers, and Beat the Heat resulted in the distribution of over 20,000 pounds of food, thousands of free microchips, and hundreds of free and low-cost spay and neuter surgeries.
- Volunteers contributed an impressive 18,500 hours.
- Animal Control Officers and Project Pet Safe significantly increased public interactions, offering free and low-cost vaccinations, microchips, and wellness exams across the County.
- SBCAS continued strong partnerships with leading animal care organizations, including ASAP, BUNS, SBCo Animal Care Foundation, CAPA, K-9 PALS, C.A.R.E.4Paws, and Shadow’s Fund, fostering a collaborative approach to animal welfare that serves pets and people within the shelter, and across the community.
As SBCAS looks ahead to 2024 and beyond, continued support and commitment from the community are paramount to sustaining vital work in caring for pets and providing essential public health and safety services. SBCAS invites everyone to join their efforts through various avenues, including career opportunities, volunteer positions, and fostering or adoption options.
