Some might call it, Art some may call it vandalism. Either way it needs to be taken down. Hopefully they find who did it so they can pay for it being taken down.
Looks like some passionate art as opposed to gang graffiti. It would be cool to see a designated area for street art that would revolve pieces every month or so. There are some extremely talented artists out there!
Yeah, it’s art as long as it not on the side of your house or on the building across the street.
These punks should be caught and punished to the MAX. These are NOT artists, they are vandels.
If people rob a store with a gun is it passionate shooting?
ANON – lol that’s some whacky logic there.
There used to be a grafitty haven at UCSB. After more than a decade someone violently attacked an artist and they stopped the artfull-over-layering-of-new art on wooden structures at the UCEN.
Someone had to screw it up!!! Shout out to Saphire out of NYC for starting that proj. sad Violence ended it.
To clear up, Saphire was the artist fron NYC who was given the project by UC. The Project ended when others, locally, became territorial and violent.
People who do graffiti do it for attention to their cause or their “art.” Publishing pictures of their illegal acts is giving them EXACTLY what these criminals want and only encourages them. I’m all for free speech but there are other ways to exercise it without defacing public property, spraying noxious chemicals into the air, and leaving garbage and spent cans nearby. Please don’t encourage them further by publishing their “droppings” on Edhat.
Idiots posting pictures of the vandalism the vandals want everyone to see. I guess no one said the dude that runs edhat was smart.
LANZEHTA – you can leave and stop reading any time you want.
How about just trying to point out that rampant vandalism is happening and these artists should be made to paint over their vandalism during their community service sentences.
The Free Gaza one is infuriating. I hope they mean free it from Hamas. To those with limited awareness about the conflict, this type of vandalism suggests that Israel is at fault for this war, totally ignoring what happened on October 7 and Hamas’ continued threats to repeat it if left unchecked. This pro-terrorism graffiti needs to be erased immediately
It’s not pro-terrorism. Only someone with a “limited awareness about the conflict” and the history of the region would think supporting a free Palestine is the same as supporting Hamas.
‘Free Gaza’ is viscously antisemitic and pro terrorism-PERIOD.
Palestinians should want to be free from Hamas.
ANON – no. It’s not. Not at all. Please make the effort to learn more about the conflict.
While it may not be “genocide,” the Palestinians have been oppressed for decades by Israeli policies.
Perfectly said. Bravo
The problem is it deflects blame away from the atrocities carried out worldwide on a daily basis including actual genocide against peoples all in the name of Islam and portrays the Jews in Israel as genocidal maniacs which couldn’t be farther from the truth. Israel is fighting a terrorist organization that doesn’t follow the Geneva Convention and uses its own people as human shields. It’s therefore impossible to prevent civilian deaths. Blame should stay squarely on Hamas. Why didn’t the UN ever condemn Hamas for its October 7 massacre? It’s appalling frankly, and your desire to brush it aside it also disappointing. We live in a world today full of unjustified anti-semitism with countless people uninformed about the conflict who see slogans like this and start to believe it. It’s categorically false. It’s political. It has no place in Santa Barbara. It should be painted over. The Jews suffered a horrific atrocity on October 7 without speaking about the 40,000 rockets missiles and mortars launched at their civilians over the last 17 years by Hamas, yet you never see them out defacing your cities like these animals. Only these terrorist sympathizers are wreaking havoc, starting violent protests and defacing property. Like it or not, it’s a fact, just look around the US
“your desire to brush it aside it also disappointing” – Never once did I ever “brush it aside.” Keep making things up, I have all day.
“Free Gaza” and “Free Palestine” are just that. Slogans showing support for a free state for the Palestinians, who have been denied that (and more) for generations. That’s not pro-terrorist, that’s pro-human rights.
“Genocide,” as I mentioned, may not be an apt term, but ignoring the horrors that are being visited on the innocents of Gaza, mostly women and children, is just awful. Tens of thousands of dead and maimed and injured innocent civilians. That can’t be ignored. Just as Oct 7 can’t be ignored, neither can every day since Oct 8.
To suggest “Free Gaza” is pro-terrorist or anti-Semitic “-PERIOD” is patently false and displays a woeful ignorance of the topic.
Calling pro-Palestinian supports, “these animals,” speaks volumes about you. Volumes that I won’t be touching. Keep your hate to yourself and preferably off this site.
“Calling pro-Palestinian supporters these animals speaks volumes…” hey Ghandi, reread what I wrote. Those protesters who are acting violently (remember what happened to Paul Kessler or have you conveniently forgotten his murder?), who are defacing property like this graffiti garbage, and who are intimidating and harassing others YES, I reiterate that they are animals. Those who are peacefully calling for Hamas to be overthrown so that the region can finally experience peace — those are not animals nor did I ever say they were. Let me ask you sincerely: how many times have you been to Israel or Gaza sacjon?
CALIB – Your words, bub. “Free Gaza” with a dove painted on a RR facing wall is hardly “intimidating and harassing” others. Your bias is blinding you. People SHOULD be supporting a free Palestine. Anyone who isn’t is supporting the continued oppression and occupation that is one of the sources of the ongoing conflict.
And no, I don’t (nor does ANYONE) need to physically visit Gaza or Israel to know and understand the history, conflict and legal issues involved there.
Let me ask you sincerely: Why are you so against resolving this crisis, CALIB589?
Launching rockets at Israel for years reminds me of picking on a bull, eventually you get the horn.
ANON – as if it were that simple and without any fault on the part of the Israeli government.
That’s not even art, it’s tagging.
The murals on Haley are art. This is just vandalism and someone wanting to “feel good” with a can of spray paint
Some, not all.
How about fingerprints on the spray cans? And people should demand an end to Israeli domination of Palestine and create two autonomous states. What is there now is close to what the Russians are doing to Ukraine.
