Coroner Releases Identity of Roofing Company Employee That Died in Accidental Fall

The Santa Barbara County Sheriff Coroner’s Bureau is identifying the decedent from the industrial accident on December 12, 2023, in the 400-block of north N Street in Lompoc.

The victim is 53-year-old Jose Luis Alonso Meza from Rialto.

On December 12, 2023, at approximately 10:43 AM, LPD Fire and Medics were dispatched to 413 N “N” Street in response to reports of a fall incident.

Upon arrival, the emergency responders were greeted by employees of an out of county roofing company, who reported that one of their colleagues had accidentally fallen through the roof into the building below.

Firefighters promptly entered the building to locate the victim. Regrettably, the individual had sustained critical injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Out of respect for the privacy and well-being of the family, the name of the deceased is being withheld until the next of kin has been notified.

In accordance with standard procedures for workplace accidents, California Occupational Safety and Health Administration (Cal/OSHA), the property owner, and the owner of the roofing company were immediately informed of the incident and responded to the scene.
