Structure Fire at UCSB Family Housing Complex

Santa Barbara County Firefighters responded to a structure fire at an apartment complex in UC Santa Barbara’s family housing units.

At 12:22 p.m. crews responded to the 700 block of Elkus Walk for reports of black smoke coming from a two-story apartment complex

Firefighters discovered a working fire inside an upstairs apartment unit. Crews were able to extinguish the fire within twenty minutes.

No one was home at the time of the fire, however the damage has displaced residents within two units.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

  1. When my mother was working on her MA at UCSB we lived nearby on Gayley Walk and later on Bolton Walk. Can’t imagine any of those places being burned with smoke detectors and sprinklers–wait maybe they did not have sprinklers. Hope the damage was not too significant and everyone was ok.
