The Carpinteria City Council announced the selection of Mr. Michael P. Ramirez as Carpinteria’s next City Manager.

This decision is pending approval of an employment agreement, which will be addressed during an upcoming Regular City Council Meeting.

“Ramirez emerged as the ideal candidate following a comprehensive nationwide recruitment and selection process, which featured community feedback, input from City staff, candidate interviews and careful consideration by the City Council,” the City stated in a press release.

Ramirez is currently the Assistant City Manager for the City of Carpinteria and during his tenure has served as interim Risk Management and Human Resources manager and interim Parks, Recreation & Community Services Director.

“In those roles he has enhanced the City’s recruitment and retention capabilities and led work to establish a City senior services program,” the City stated.

Ramirez has over 24 years of public sector work experience, including prior work with the Oxnard Elementary and Hueneme School Districts, and with the Cities of Moorpark and Oxnard.

Working in Parks, Recreation, and Community Services, he managed teams between five and forty-five staff, and spent several years working with the Police Activities League (PAL) to promote positive relationships between law enforcement officers, youth, and the community.

Ramirez has Master of Public Policy and Administration from Cal Lutheran University and a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from California State University Northridge. He supports several non-profits and volunteers locally as a mentor for CADA.

According to the press release, Ramirez also enjoys coaching basketball, music, traveling up and down the California Coast, and spending time with his three daughters, including one who just started her first year at UCSB.

Mayor Clark expressed his enthusiasm for this appointment, stating, “The Council and I are absolutely delighted to announce the selection of Mr. Ramirez as our next City Manager. His track record and commitment to our community values align perfectly with Carpinteria’s mission and vision.”

“I am deeply honored. Carpinteria is an exceptionally engaged, supportive, and inclusive community, and I am privileged to be a part of it. Our remarkable staff is truly passionate about this city and their work. Carpinteria is where I belong,” stated Ramirez.
