California Governor, Gavin Newsom, appointed Kristy Imel as a Santa Barbara County Superior Court Judge this month.
Imel fills the vacancy created by the retirement of Judge Arthur Garcia.
Gov. Newsom made the appointment on October 5th, and Imel was sworn into office on October 10 at a ceremony on the Santa Maria Court Campus.
Prior to joining the Court, Imel served as a Deputy District Attorney at the San Luis Obispo County District Attorney’s Office since 2010. She was a Deputy District Attorney at the Merced County District Attorney’s Office from 2007 to 2010. Imel was an Adjunct Professor at Merced College from 2008 to 2009.
She earned a Juris Doctor degree from the Santa Barbara and Ventura Colleges of Law.
In a press release, presiding Judge Pauline Maxwell stated she is honored to welcome the newest member of the Superior Court of California, County of Santa Barbara.
“Judge Imel will be an outstanding addition to the Santa Barbara Superior Court. Her tenure with the Merced and San Luis Obispo District Attorney’s offices provides her with excellent experience in preparation for this new role. I join the voices of the entire Santa Barbara Superior Court in welcoming her to this new chapter in her career. The community will be well served by this appointment,” said Judge Maxwell.
