UPDATE:
This roadwork and full closure of State Route 217 will not occur tonight as planned and has been re-scheduled to Monday, Oct. 16 for a two-hour period between 10 pm and 6 am.
Part of San Jose Creek Bridge Replacement Project
A project to replace the San Jose Creek Bridge on State Route 217 in Goleta will continue with a full closure of the highway on Sunday, October 15 for a two-hour period between 10 pm and 6 am to allow for the relocation of a crane from the western side to the eastern side of the bridge. Travelers may detour via Hollister Road to Fairview Avenue to James Fowler Road in each direction.
The eastbound SR 217 on-ramp at Sandspit Road will remain closed for the duration of the project, estimated at two years. Travelers leaving the Santa Barbara Airport will use Fairview Avenue and Hollister Avenue to reach US 101. Additional electronic message boards have been activated to assist airport visitors.
The contractor for the $26 million dollar project is MCM Construction Inc of North Highlands, CA. This project is expected to be complete in the Fall of 2027.

Great to have these updates on construction progress. Fairview Avenue, especially right at Hollister, is in pretty rough shape. Would be great if that road could receive some improvements as it’s going to be hosting extra airport traffic for some time.
