Grade Fire 100% Contained at 97 Acres

The Grade Incident brush fire is fully contained at 97 acres as of Monday evening.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Firefighters worked through the night on the Grade Incident.

Containment as of Saturday morning is 80% and the size remains at 97 acres.

3:30 p.m., October 6, 2023

As of 3:30 p.m., the forward progress of the Grade Incident has been stopped.

The fire is now reported to have reached 97 acres and is 10% contained.

Air Tankers and Los Padres Forest Helicopter 528 are being released.

The cause is under investigation.

As of 3:00 p.m., the fire is now estimated to be 65 acres.

The Santa Barbara County Fire Department reports the name of the fire has been updated to the “Grade Incident.”

“Good progress being made on the fire. Cause under investigation,” said County Fire Captain Scott Safechuck.

2:00 p.m., October 6, 2023

Firefighters are on the scene of a growing brush fire near the Highway 101 and Highway 1 interchange by the Nojoqui Grade.

The initial call came in after 1:00 p.m. Friday reported as a mostly grass fire around 20 acres with the potential to grow to 100 acres.

Santa Barbara County Fire Department, Los Padres Forest Fire, and CalFire have all responded to the scene. A 2nd Alarm call has been initiated with six tankers, helicopters, rotorcraft, and one VLAT (very large air tanker).

As of 2:00 p.m. Friday, the fire has been reported to be around 45 acres in size.

There are structures threatened in the area.

County Air Support helicopters are on the scene actively hitting the head of the fire with water.

Highway 101 is open in both directions although traffic has slowed.
