No Injuries in Plane Crash at Santa Barbara Airport

No injuries were reported from a small plane crash at Santa Barbara Airport.

Friday, September 23, 2023, at approximately 11:20 a.m. the Santa Barbara Air Traffic Control Tower observed and reported a small plane crash landing at Santa Barbara Airport.

The plane, a Piper Sport fixed-wing single-engine aircraft was landing on Runway 15R / 33L. The front landing gear was damaged, the plane crashed and came to rest with the nose of the plane down on the runway.

Aircraft Rescue Firefighting resources were notified by the Santa Barbara Air Traffic Control Tower and responded with the Santa Barbara Airport Patrol. Additional resources from Santa Barbara City Fire, Santa Barbara County Fire, and AMR were canceled.

The solo pilot was extricated from the aircraft with the assistance of Airport Rescue Firefighters. The pilot was evaluated by firefighters and uninjured. There were no hazards and no damage was reported to the runway.

The cause of the incident is under investigation. The airport was able to partially re-open by approximately 11:45 a.m.
