A brush fire over one acre was contained in Buellton on Friday afternoon.
At 3:53 p.m. Santa Barbara County firefighters responded to the 200 block of Highway 246 and discovered two-to-four foot flames in a grassy area moving at a moderate rate of spread, threating nearby structures.
Hand crews, engines, and an Air Support Unit helicopter were on the scene making good progess in a short amount of time. Ground personnel were coordinating with the helicopter to ensure water drops were alone the fire lines.
At 4:30 p.m., County Fire Captain Scott Safechuck announced the forward progress had been stopped and several structures had been threatened. Crews were able to extinguish the fire before any structural damage took place.
The final GPS model showed the fire reached 1.5 acres.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
