On July 10, 2023 at approximately 1721 hours, Arroyo Grande Police officers were dispatched to a report of a male subject who stole a wallet from a female victim, in business parking lot in the 1400 block of E. Grand Ave.
The suspect fled on foot, and was pursued by a bystander, who was able to recover the stolen wallet and return in to the victim.
Responding officers located the suspect, identified as 37-year-old Manny Favela of Santa Maria, a short distance away and took him into custody without incident. Favela was arrested for felony robbery (California Penal Code section 211) and a misdemeanor warrant out of Ventura County. Favela was booked into the San Luis Obispo County Jail on the above charges.
Officers have been unable to identify the bystander who was able to recover the victim’s wallet and would like to contact him to get a statement. Anyone who witnessed the incident is asked to contact Senior Officer Jeff Smith at (805)473-5110.
Besides being a thief, he’s a coward: Steal from: a woman, the elderly, kids or the handicapped.
Taking a chance, pursuing a thief, but the guy is a hero in my book. Saved the victim time and grief.
