Santa Barbara County and Los Padres Forest firefighters extinguished a quarter-acre brush fire at an avocado orchard north of Goleta on Tuesday morning.
At 8:34 a.m., crews arrived in the 1000 block of N. Patterson Ave at a private avocado farm located on the Los Padres Forest boundary.
Crews discovered a 50-100 foot spot fire with small flames and no threatened structures.
Forward progress of the fire was stopped by 9:00 a.m. at 1/4 acre burned. Bulldozers and fixed-wing aircraft were cancelled.
Ground crews will remain on the scene working to ensure containment lines and mop up the area.
Fire investigators determined the cause of the fire to be related to a gopher eradication device.
Crews will continue working on steep hillside amongst poison oak to ensure fire is out.
There were no damaged structures or injuries.
